Essential Oils

I'm trying to get into using essential oils. I've been doing quite a bit of research on the use of Myrrh, Frankincense and Tea Tree oils. Pretty incredible stuff if you read the studies on the NIH website.

Primarily I'm going to be experimenting on some skin issues I have. Takes many months to get into a dermatologist so while I wait I'll give it a go. I'm starting as safely as possible at the lowest dosage rates and if it goes well I'll go up to the recommend rates.

Some of these oils have even shown promise for different cancers like bladder and skin cancers.

Seems like the key is making sure you get the real deal and when you do find it it isn't cheap.

Anyone else use any or have any tips and or tricks? Might try diffusing as well.

Be careful. Using these as ADJUVANT therapy is one thing. Using them as replacements? No way. Over the counter ibuprofen blows essential oils out of the water for anti-inflammatory properties.

I hear ya, it's just until I can get in...unless it does the job of course. I actually can't take ibuprofen, took too much of it through the years so it kills my stomach now.

Thanks for the reply!

That was just an example. NIH studies about them focus on antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties. I just picked one.

By comparison to Pharmacologics, including over the counter ones, essential oils are weak. Not useless. Just weak. Some people believe they can cure anything. They can't. Help? Maybe.

You can't patent EO, so no company is going to pay for the research to see just how effective they are or aren't.

Tea Tree, be very careful. It has a very strong reactive potential. Any of them present significant risk of allergic reaction, so go slow.

Aspirin came from a tree, so almost a simple EO that was commercialized.

Most of pharmacologics come from nature in some way or another. They just have to be "massaged" to fit the right receptors the right way.

That I am. Currently doing a 1 drop to 1 tsp EO to carrier oil ratio, basically as weak as you can go. So far, so good, and it seems to have reduced the itchiness and pain already...might be a placebo effect or maybe the coconut oil is just helping.

Thanks for your post!

Just an update, I started to develop more serious issues over the last few days. Got in to see the regular Dr. and yep left with a couple meds to start. They drew a TON of blood to send off so we'll see what happens, will take up to a week to hear something since it's a extensive work up. Now I have a total diet change as well. Bummer but it is progress.

The oils were helping the issue (but now it's internal as well). Took photos everyday since starting and even my wife was surprised about the difference.

This is where you get into issues of trying to determine just what made a change. Was it the EO, the meds, the diet change, or a combination of both.

I always TRY to limit to one variable, at least for about a week, to determine what made me better. I hate when Dr. asks me to change amount of both types of insulin, AND adjust eating/timing, along with exercise. Well, any of those could have made for better glucose control

Apparently this was going to happen at some point, all part of the same issue. While I was thinking it was topical it really was internal but just showing itself in different ways.

I was feeling like crap a little while ago and had a friend bring over a diffuser with eucalyptus oil.

Never thought I'd be into it but it's extremely soothing especially when going to bed.

Wife is big into essential oils and is always giving the kids things for light health issues. We now live in the essential oil capital of the US with Doterra & Young Living based here in Utah. She found it interesting how it became two companies after founders of Doterra had different opinions on purity and formula, Doterra has higher standards.
