My E24 refresh project [1983 633csi]
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1641239 Since it is pretty much sorted, and my 2002 is best it has been in my care, my dad and I felt like it was time for another project. To be honest, its not. My e36 m3 needs some love, we have a Cherokee Chief thats a full resto, a 74 BMW 2002 that is currently a rolling shell, and a 1983 Porche 944 that has been sitting for 10-12 years... But yea we have nothing to do, so picked we picked up this nice little 1983 633csi. Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr Honestly, its a pretty good car. It was repainted at some point, by someone that knew what they were doing, but its not a concours show car. There is one spot that has a paint blend that iffy but I am hoping with a polish it will be passable. I am going to start on the detail next week. Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr The interior has some wear, which is expected, but over all very nice. The leather looks to be in good shape but its pretty dirty. I cleaned a small test spot last night and I cannot wait to do a 50/50 shot once I use my good cleaners. Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr As for plans. Right now we are going to address some small mechanical stuff(exhaust is loud, fluid change, engine mounts might be going, etc etc) and cosmetic issues. Detail, painting or replacing some interior trim bits(steering wheel, shifter, seat trim, etc etc), adding a radio with BT, and just generally looking it over. Since the car is already lowered on H&R springs, I would like to source some better wheels and possibly put a Nardi in it. This shouldn't be anywhere near what the e9 project was but I will be documenting it here. Stay tuned. |

Love this! Wishing you all the best - it's looking amazing so far 💪
Will you repaint it the original color?

Just compare this Beauty to horrendous bmw design these days. I hope bmw designers hang couple of pictures of these older designs in their studio!

Don't really know from experience. But imagine it took 40 years for that leather steering wheel to get the feel that it has and it must be really nice to the touch.
I think that steering wheel looks amazing |

Beautiful! Love the early E24.
For a radio refresh, try the Blaupunkt SQR46 DAB. Looks exactly like the late 80s Blaupunkts, is shallow enough to flush mount, and supports BT audio & RCA outputs if you want to add an external amp. Here’s it in my E31 (the iPhone flash makes the screen look a lot more dim than it is. It’s the same brightness as the OBC in real life): |

Needs Euro bumpers
They are class. First thing is to get rid of those USA enormous bumpers front and rear.

Subscribed. I had 1982 633 manual but sold it a few years ago.
Are you planning to change the wheels and do euro bumpers conversion?

Wow this blew up....
I am going to start by picking it up from my dads shop tonight and driving it to work tomorrow. I will note anything that needs looking at. After that I will start detailing it next week and we will go from there. At this time I dont believe we are going to change the bumpers over unless a deal presents itself. Nothing is set in stone, right now we just need to shake it down. |

Great thread! Loved your E9 project and can’t wait to see what you do to this. I just picked up a ‘99 M3 coupe in Hellrot. Doing a few things at a time to enjoy the process.

The E24 is one of the best BMW designs period…love it so much. That 633 looks great, i am jealous!! They are gorgeous cars and just want to drive forever. Had a '77 630 for a few years, rescued it but it was an automatic and ultimately I sold it to a happy new owner. Nice thing about the '83 is that it has the E28 platform not the E12 of the early E24's-certain parts were very hard to find for my early car AND it yours has a BMW built galvanized unibody. My Karmann built car had some hidden rust issues that needed serious attention and sheet metal is virtually non existent.
My wife's great uncle has an '85 M635csi that he's owned since '86 and one day I hope he will sell it to me. Hope that you enjoy it for many many years!!

Looks like you pick up a good one, I restored an 87 e24 M6, truly great car, last of the "greenhouses".
So nice on the hwy, they are known for electrical glitches so find all the grounds and clean them well. Nice to see you kept the bottle cap wheels, they are a bugger to find tires for that fit but they do have their own charm. Looking forward to your progress.

I can't stop looking at it. Its perfect!!! These were the cars that made me a BMW fan. This is the era when BMW clearly stood out above the rest...it wasn't even a debate. Those days are long gone!!
