Hatteras 42 convertible boat

I am about to take the plunge and buy a 2 year old sports fisher Hatteras boat. Just wanted to check if any of you guys have experience with these boats since the boating forums seem to be biased to more expensive brands.
Any advice would be welcome before I make my mind up

Hatteras boats are awesome. They've been building some of the most well constructed boats for over 30 years. I say go for it!

A boat is just a hole in the water, into which you pour money.

Not unless you live in it as homer simpson says "the nice thing about living in a boat is if you don't like your neighbor, you just lift your anchor and move somewhere else".

I would expect someone from Florida to appreciate the joys of boating.... I digress.

I'd rather spend my time on the golf course.

I was born sailing, but took up Golf while I was in college in Ohio. Fun and very challenging. But, I always said Sailing (boating) is like sex, you don't have to be a pro to enjoy it.

Golf is frustrating 80% of the time.

They are great boats but you are going to be spending some major $$$$ in terms of of regular upkeep. A good diesel mechanic charges a substantial amount of money per hour, plus parts. Plus the fuel costs are epic. You're looking at putting in I would guess around 600 gallons of diesel to fill your tanks. I mean if you can afford it more power to you, and they are a lot of fun, but that is a major expense. I used to work in a marina that primarily consisted of boats like yours: 35 to 50 foot cabin cruisers and sport fisherman. They're great fun but they're so much work and money.

You figure about 10% of purchase price in seasonal upkeep. The fuel is another story. I worked on a gas dock where dudes in comperable size boats were dropping $5-$10k per fill-up.

Got to pay to play!
