Iconic Cities
So which cities do you consider iconic? Classic cities with a uniqueness not found elsewhere.
For me, it's Nürnberg and Salzburg. London rates in there, too. But London is an ever changing place. Nürnberg and Salzburg seem more frozen in time. Salzburg

Frank sang 2 songs about Chicago and 2 for NYC so... I guess NYC fights my bias as both more Classic and unique damn it |

Hong Kong, although the current political and COVID troubles have made it rather untenable for now. Perhaps forever...

Kyoto, Japan
(Yes, my point is that there are iconic cities outside Europe...)

I'd say Chicago but I am biased
Good bars, decent work/life culture, nice blend of architecture, great food, affordable compared to other big cities in the US |

I'd say LA, SF, and Chicago too as far as "world class" cities.
The California ones have definitely seen their best days. But still attract tons of tourists the world over, expats from other countries, and are very culturally/aesthetically significant.

Lhasa, Tibet
Difficult to reach and I haven't been there; the Potala and the natural setting are beautiful but the rest of the city may not be quite up to snuff. Also, visitors may suffer headaches due to oxygen deprivation because of the high elevation. EDIT: Come to think of it, the city of Lhasa is probably not iconic; it's the Potala that is the icon and so an iconic feature, not city.

My wife and I are in Barcelona right now. We love it here. Here's a nice pic flying in yesterday.
Barcelona is certainly iconic. |
