How Detrimental is Pornography
For a society like America's, do you think free and endless hours of pornography becoming available online has been disastrous on our youth or on men in general? Or is it not really an issue? I don't mention women because I don't believe they consume pornography in the ways males do.
Hoping for a mature (pun not intended) discussion on this topic if possible. |

I do believe that porn is detrimental to some people, both men and women. For men, i feel like there are some users who watch it too much, get addicted to it, develop unrealistic expectations of what sex is like, etc. I agree with you that there aren't too many women who consume it, or over-consume it. Then for women in porn, it can be objectifying, demeaning, but at the same time it can provide a decent paying job (OnlyFans is a great example).
Overall, I believe that porn is not detrimental to the majority, but that there are some folks that it does impact in a bad way. Looking forward to hearing what others have to say on this topic. This should be interesting.

Only porn that is detrimental is the Japanese stuff that blurs out all the good parts. Leaves too much for the imagination.
Do you know how many wives would be so annoyed with their husbands always trying to bang if they werent wacking it in the basement bathroom to porn?

If you want to focus on what really has been detrimental is this shift in accepting traditional gender roles. Men are men and women are women. But with all the stuff going on saying we're all one in the same without recognizing what each sex does well or is innate to their sex is what's screwing up society. All this push about women can do anything and then now they're seeing that backfire with these transgender athletes that are biologically male causing all sorts of issues.
Then there's the softening of men. The amount of simping is just sickening. The lack of purpose and drive is pretty evident. The amount of men that haven't had sex is growing to a concerning level. And people wonder why porn is a problem. The way the environment has morphed in how men and women interact with each other is contributing to this perceived porn problem. |

Porn is needed in our society. When my wife and I were going through IVF, and I had to give my donation to the doctor, they put me in a room with a DVR full of porn and a lazy boy recliner lol. My only problem was how long to spend alone in the room.

Porn is detrimental. there are times where hours in a day slip by me as I'm on the hunt for the raunchiest vids. When all is said and done and I've arrived to post nut clarity state of mind, I feel like a piece of shit hanging my head in shame as I close what must be 20-30 tabs, pondering about the direction of my life as I lay naked on my couch with a used sock on my crouch. this is the life of a coomer.

If anything it's more necessary now than ever. We are becoming a reclusive society, people spend more time on TikTok and consuming "content" than socializing with others. If Mark Zuckerberg has his way, we will be living in an alternate reality. Women don't give 80% of men the time of day, so that whole, if you watch porn you wont be able to get it up for the real thing argument is moot for the vast majority of men. Most married men aren't having much sex either. Then, if they aren't relieving all that aggression through sex, what else is there. Don't want a whole bunch of rage quitting alternate reality men with full sacks running around, who knows what they will do.
Porn is the easiest way to relieve all that pent up backlog. |

Its detrimental just like Metallica lyrics make people devil worshipers.
However, there are always people who are not in the correct state of mind that will take anything to the extreme. |

I don't think it's any different than alcohol, driving fast, eating unhealthy, not taking care of yourself, etc. Moderation is the key to everything, but it's true that it's the hardest path by far, and if you've got an addictive personality ANY of the things mentioned plus a myriad of others is going to do you in.
I also don't buy that it gives men an unrealistic expectation of women, it only takes a few seconds to know all women aren't like that and if you find one that is, keep her as long as you can. I also don't buy the whole objectification thing. In my relationships I've found just as many women that WANTED to be objectified (in that arena) as those that didn't. It's not all the time, but women want to be wanted. Take that ace away from them and many would crumble to bits. As long as you can come back to reality and treat yourself and others with respect, everything that doesn't physically or mentally hurt in a permanent sense is on the table. |

I'm not against it but it's 100% detrimental - especially for men who consume it in excess.

This is only a point of discussion in the USA which is oddly enough a very puritan nation in public but somehow produces most of the world's porn... as they say... puritans in public, perverts in private

I find the debate really interesting and like most interesting topics for discussion, full of nuance. Personally I think porns availability is dangerous for the developing minds of young people. I think it was Jordan Peterson that said something like, never before in the history of mankind have teenage boys and young men had available to them an infinite amount of every category of digital sex acts available to them.
So this is kind of a massive experiment - I believe history will judge in hindsight in one direction or the other. My guess is negatively vs positively. For me, being very interested in girlfriends, kissing and all that from a young age, it was SI swimsuit issue that I found captivating. Then finding some magazine on the side of the road, knowing in my heart I probably shouldn't be looking at the images in middle school. Then in HS, my neighbor, who was being raised by his grandfather who was a somewhat famous figure in the rap industry in Atlanta, had video tapes, and we would watch them knowing we shouldn't be - but nearly impossible, at that age, to not watch. It was very romanticized stuff not hardcore - more like sensual with good lighting women with professional hairstyles etc. In college it was a problem for me when I felt like isolating myself due to whatever issues I was facing at that time. Once I got married and especially after having a son, I chose to not watch it anymore ever. For me I feel like that was the right decision. But as we like to say these days "to each their own." Was it overall detrimental for me? I can't say for sure. I believe it contributed to me becoming sexually active at a younger age potentially. But that wasn't ever a problem, besides perhaps a distraction from what might have been more pressing matters. As someone already said, it can be a drug, an addiction, like other drugs. My question is, is it's availability detrimental? Does society educate our youth enough on it? Does it reflect America's obsession with sex? Does hardcore porn pervert what sex is intended for? I'll tell you one thing, it definitely exposes youth to very mature subjects they likely aren't equipped to handle. How much do our young ppl consume it? Like marijuana, this isn't 1960's level THC we are talking about. |

It's not as harmful as 2000+ years of teaching people their bodies and natural desires are shameful.
