Frivolous purchase

I suddenly want a reasonably priced (I truly want an insanely costly Delonghi) espresso maker for my office. Anyone have one that they like? I would say under $150
I have a Keurig for my morning coffee but around 2-3pm I have a craving for a small tasty espresso.

It’s also taking everything to not buy a Revolution digital toaster for home.

I need Helllpppppp

I had a manual one, it's not worth it!

I upgraded to Belville Bambino and a good grinder. Eventually wanted to master a "bottomless porta-filter". Wasted a lot of coffee and constant mess to get to this state. Still likes to spew little jets of coffee out the side if I screw up something in the process. I find myself watching the coffee extraction and settlement.

Edit: I can't figure out how to embed it. Argh, sorry

Breville is the answer. Anything cheaper is likely rubbish nd next step up is thousands.

For $150 I don't think you will get anything "automatic" for espresso. Sounds to me like what you want is a superautomatico. The cheapest one I have seen (and own) is the Phillips Carina. It was just on sale for like $399 or $350. I managed to get it for $299, but not sure if it was a pricing error.

Otherwise it will be some kind of manual machine. I have a manual Delonghi that's probably around $150 but I realized I have no desire to be a barista.

we love our nespresso

easy to use, makes a good cup (espresso, late, macchiato, cappuchino, restretto)

pods are a little pricey though, and I can never remeber what color is what for the pods

We have a Breville with the built in burr grinder which is key for good coffee. I think we paid $450 5-6 years ago. It's decent but in the US and with standard power it's hard to pull enough pressure to get a great espresso or frothed milk.
I stayed at a friends house and used their Nespresso with LavAzza espresso pods and thought it was a very good for an inexpensive machine.

I was going to bring up a unit from Flair, but since you mentioned its for an office setting I think a nespresso would be best. I have one as well and have never had complaints with it.

and they're not labeled when you take them out of the box. So the "pod rack" is like coffee roulette

OP needs a pod system for his use scenario, i am no fan of pods because price and fuck knows drinking heated plastic can't be good but it will work for him.

Now the breville, i have the same machine and stopped using the pump to froth, i just use a saucepan and a $10 hand frother. It is faster, easier and doesn't kill your expensive pump.

Assuming you’re talking about Nespresso pods? They’re labeled on the foil portion on top with the type and size.

this is just the worst when you're a yank traveling in europe. cant tell you how many cups of hot milk ive made...and i dont usually take cream at all. that said, they are impressive little machines when you're in a pinch for a quick espresso.

following for any other ideas...

For under $200 you can find the Cuisinart Manual Espresso Maker EM-100. It’s an older model but so worth it for the price. Highly recommended.
