NYE
When do you think the last time you really went all out and did something extravagant was?
What was it? In 7 years since moving to Florida we did one gala when we first got here and a nice dinner another year but the rest have been on the couch. |

I purposefully stay home on NYE. Far too many drunks out on the road. We’ve also gotten old enough to loathe crowded bars and retarauants. Frankly, I can’t remember the last time we even stayed up until midnight.

^This, we go to a good friends house, party and stay the night. Much more fun, hassle free and safer.

Last big NYE was back in 2000 when I was stationed in England, other than that we make a point to chill at home and leave the evening to the amateurs.
However, this year we'll be in San Antonio for my mom's birthday (NYE 1942) and I understand the hotel has a bar so we may hang out there for the after party.

I don't go out on NYE. I realized many years ago that there are just too many drunks trying too hard to have too good of a time. I much prefer staying home with a big order of Chinese take-out, a few drinks and listen to music with a few good friends. Last year I posted my musical evening on the "What song are you listening to right now? " thread. Maybe I'll do the same again this year... depends on my mood.

The last BIG NYE for me was back in the mid ‘80s. Got limos, did dinner then a club in NYC. Stupid expensive, crazy crowded and a shit show. A guy next to me passed out at the club but never hit the floor because people were shoulder to shoulder. I’ll pass on amateur night. Even if you think you are being safe by taking a car not to drink and drive, too many others are driving drunk.

We prefer quiet time in the mountains where we can really recharge the batteries before ringing in the new year. When we were in our 20's we did the New York and LA, San Diego parties - those days are happily behind us.

Probably 40 years ago. NYE in Nürnberg, Germany. Awesome time. We tried to repeat the experience the following year, but it was a bust. That was the last time I did anything for NYE aside from just going to a friend's house or something like that. Too much lunacy out there. Better to just stay home.

For a number of years we went to the River Rink in Philly to celebrate NYE on ice with midnight fireworks. We usually stop by a few friends' houses on the way home. That will not happen this year due to the bad weather forecast though.

Last year was the first year in about 15 years where I stayed up until midnight. I'd much rather stay home or go to small-scale thing at a friends or neighbors house but then go home by 10. This year we are having a couple friends over and will be cooking some filet medallions and some sort of seafood.

Well, you see......
I was probably early 20's back in the late 90's and my GF's BFF father worked on Wall Street. He got us a Penthouse Suite in some swanky hotel. WE took a cab just outside Time Square and went to an amazing Steakhouse and had sidewalk passes to the ball drop. We thought we were so slick we just kept walking around the sidewalk so we didnt have to get in the mosh pit. 2nd time, new GF about 10 years later we stayed right in a Times Square hotel. I had gotten super sick the day before but I knew my GF still wanted to go. We stood at the end of our hallway and watched from inside. Just the things you see reaffirm that we developed from apes |

Best by far for me is Sydney. You need to pick your spot that is a) not too crowded and b) still has a good view but the kids absolutely love it, it's a great atmosphere and one can either kick on or go home once the fireworks are done.
Friends have done the "boat on the harbour" thing, it's a great experience but pricey. |

Last year we were in Positano and had dinner at a small restaurant. They passed out drinks and there was a huge fireworks display. This year, I think we are going down the street to a friends house. Pissed I didn’t plan a Europe trip like normal.

I'm a homebody too, it's just gonna be me and my wife against the world haha. Probably cook a nice dinner and watch some festivities on the computer, trying to get her to take a bubble bath+scented candles, etc, w me...ironic I'm the guy and into that chillaxing and she doesn't really enjoy it lol.
Besides being wary of rowdy crowds, just wanna avoid any troublemakers, it's palatable during certain holidays, some ppl are just up to no good and wanna mess w others.
