? to those who know Macs and their web browsers

So, I'm on a PowerBook G4 running Tiger and sometimes Firefox.

How come sometimes webpages will show me different graphics on different browsers. bmwusa.com looks different on Safari from the way it looks using Firefox. I saw an animated main graphic on Firefox and a static E90 on Safari. It held true after I refreshed the Safari window. What's up with that?

A follow-up question. How come Safari seems to have trouble with "build your own" pages and other forms?

It's because there are lazy software designers that only take the time to create a model that works with Windows.

If all the Apple users complain enough, they'll fix it. My 2 cents...

Yeah, Gap.com didn't used to run at all with safari... then I wrote a letter.

I'm not saying it was just my letter but I did threaten to never shop there again unless they got Mac friendly... and now it works.

it's not really a Mac/PC thing. Most of the issues are caused by browser to browser differences and differing capabilities. Internet Explorer handles data quite differently with some things than do the mozilla/firefox/netscape browsers. Safari is another thing altogether, as are Opera, iCab, etc.

Often times, it's not that developers are too lazy to make multiple site versions, but often that they A: have a tight deadline and don't have enough time to make multiple versions, or B: what works in browser A, simply won't work in browser B, etc.

But the developer should make it work for all browsers. Unless of course they're too lazy, or getting kick backs from Microsoft.

It’s kind of like BMW has to make several variations on their cars for various countries. I.e. different emission requirements, power windows, fuel etc.

Can you imagine if BMW engineers were to lazy to change their exhaust system to be within US requirement? There would be outrage coming from potential clients in the US.

believe me, I hear ya but all I'm trying to say is that often times developers aren't given timetables to do everything they should do. Especially if their superiors give a line like: 'well, such and such a % of the populace uses Internet Explorer for Windows..."

That's the crappy part. However, there's also the fact that there are a lot of browsers out there, and every one of them handles code a little bit differently. Ideally, all companies and developers should adhere to the W3C standards (imo). That would be about the only way that everyone would be able to have a somewhat fair experience.

There's a counter-point to that as well BTW, but I won't get into it here.

I submitted a bug to apple, then switched to firefox as I think it works well with more web sites.
