Watch as a Gift
My husband’s birthday is next week and would like to get him a nice watch. Some of his are getting older or bands have broken. He likes more of a modern style. I think I would like soemthing a little more dressy than a casual one. He likes more of a sleek look. Was looking at these. I’ve attached a pic of a few that he wears. I looked at Breitling and not a fan of any of those. I don’t know much about men’s watches and was hoping for some ideas. Price point up to a few thousand.

Watches are a very personal and can very dependant on personality. You need to give an idea of your husbands style and what your actual budget it.
Omega Speedmaster is a classic watch, can be worn on metal bracelet, leather or rubber strap. Classic style, not too big or showy but elegant and sporty. They also appreciate in value. https://www.jomashop.com/omega-speed...xoCF4MQAvD_BwE |

If the budget is "a few thousand" (I interpret that as less than $5k) I'd look at Hamilton. If you want it at 5k then you can get some Panerai watches there. Or Omega, but that starts pushing it to 6-7k+

I am not a big watch guy. I have a 30+ year old Movado I never wear and a second Movado with a company logo I received as a gift for my 5-year anniversary (also never wear). I got bored of the Movado's pretty quickly. My third watch is a Raymond Weil my wife gave me as a wedding gift when we got married 22 years and 360 days ago.
I don't wear a watch while working from home or most anytime these days. Now the Raymond Weil has accumulated sentimental value and is the only one I wear when I go out. I have had it repaired a couple of times (probably because I got it wet) but overall it is an excellent watch. Also meets the "little more dressy" criteria without being ostentatious. I'd recommend checking them out and also Tissot for a lower to mid-range brand. In terms of details to look into (does he have preferences) - shape (round vs. square), size, number style and size, date vs. no date, etc. I just bought a watch for my wife for Christmas and it took 4 tries to get the right one - and she picked out each one. So that's the last thing I'll mention - check return policy and encourage him to return / exchange if it isn't something he really wants. Watches are weird like that - you might love it in pictures or at the store but not so much when you get it home and put it on your wrist. No sense spending the money for it to sit in a drawer.

Does he prefer automatic or quartz? That will influence the price as well.

Ok, soemthing that is different than your basic white or pearl face that looks like the next watch. He doesn’t like Rolex. As far as shape, he would lean more towards square but he wouldn’t be opposed to round if it wasn’t basic. He doesn’t have a preference of auto vs quartz. No leather band. I would say more link bracelet style and not the type that looks like a bracelet. His favorite color is royal blue so if a watch had an accent color that would be the one. Price point I would say under $3k. I would lean to opt for something more affordable for his birthday and spend a higher amount for our 10 year anniversary next year. I’m going to look up a few of the brands mentioned thus far.

Thanks for the Hamilton recommendation! I saved these as options while I continue to look at the recommendations coming through. The Ventura skeleton face is pretty cool and like how different it is but would do that for a more causal look. It’s also not out yet. I’m going to check out Panerai next.

What about used? Tag Heuer makes a watch called Monaco which is square AND blue dial. New they are $7k but used market can be had for much less. But it would be used, not sure if that is a consideration. Comes on bracelet

Y’all are giving me some good ideas for the 10 year. Just doesn’t make sense to spend that now and it’s not a milestone birthday either. |

I know it’s a leather strap but that is easily swapped…

a lot of watches with retail prices in the few thousand dollar range sell for less than MSRP through either having sales or customers negotiation of course a few thousand dollars is a lot of money for a watch and particularly a quartz watch.
chk the link below for watches not to buy. https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...hes+not+to+buy the only watch I would consider is the Sinn but even still I would think it over for a few months. https://www.watchbuys.com/store/pc/S...rap-6p4872.htm |

https://strapsco.com/product-categor...l-watch-bands/ Edit: not sure if your husband is that into watches but a simple tool and it’s a simple DIY job or an inexpensive swap at the jeweler. The watch has a 22mm width strap so that is the width strap you need. https://strapsco.com/product/h-link-shark-mesh-strap/

Rolex, Patek Phillipe , Audemars Piguet The first one is nearly impossible to get your hands on right now and starts at $8-9k... the other 2 even if you have to ask are not for you Anything sub $10K aside the brands above gets dented in resale and is almost universally discounted... I think Omega is the one that slightly stands out but still gets discounts. Tag Heuer... they are almost never not discounted.

^ a classic look. Seeing her husband’s collection, he seems to like something more interesting in term of the face of the watch but this is a great choice as well.

Tend to agree with this, watches can be very personal choices. Maybe tell him what you to get for his birthday, give him a budget and take him shopping so he can make his choice!
