is smoking a hookah as bad as a cigarette?

maybe a stupid question but i never smoked a cigarette in my life and lately I've been into these hookah bars that are near my campus. I don't go every day but more like every other week, and I just bought one so we could save some money . Anyway back to the point I've read around and everyone says its the equivalent of smoking a cigarette but not as addicting. Now that kinda bugs me because the last thing i want is to be coughing like 60year old man that has tar in his lungs. I don't drink all that much either but i do enjoy a good smoke from a hookah but don't want to if i end up with some sort of chance of getting cancer or crap.

Maybe I'm over reacting but i can't get straight answer from google lol

it is equivalent, if not higher to a cigarette in terms of the damage it causes/can cause.
"Other research shows that a single 45 minute session of hookah tobacco smoking (tobacco molasses) delivers slightly less tar and carbon monoxide (around 3-6%) than a full pack of cigarettes."

its a common misperception. i came across one study that found the amount of tar to be 10 times higher than from a cigarette in comparable amounts of puffs. water or milk doesn't function as a filter in the way a cigarette filter does.

the tobacco burns just like in a cigarette, apart from the tobacco being different and not completely dry. it doesn't matter whether its from direct or indirect heat.

Well if you don't mind talking to your children/grand children through a pipe, I guess it isn't damaging. Hookah = concentrated Nicotine. Come to the chatroom and we'll have a talk. I believe I've persuaded Kabalm to quit smoking...hopefully I can help you out, IF you want to quit. It really is a self-conscious decision, unless you want to die a slow painful death...then it really isn't a decision...
