Early this century I had a pale yellow M-Coupe. It's the only car I wish I still had!

Same here. Sold the clown shoe when we were expecting our first born and we were just starting out. I was starting my career and put all our money to buy our first house.
Never regretted the decision but still wish I would have kept it.

In December 2001, I took delivery of a Toledo Blue E39 530i through the Performance Center Delivery program in Spartanburg, SC. (I became a huge fan of this program and have done it a couple more times since then.) Back then, before you took delivery of your car, there was a fleet of available models in the parking lot, and you picked whichever one you wanted to drive yourself the short distance over to the factory tour. The one I picked — and I'm still a little shocked it was available — was a blue Clown Shoe exactly like the one pictured in that story. Driving my new 5-series home later that day made me a lifelong BMW fan, but rowing the gearbox in that lovable M Coupe earlier in the day definitely did not hurt the cause.

Early this century I bought a Dakar Yellow II M Coupe. I still have the same car. It was my first new car purchase using my own money.

Over the past 2+ decades, I've thought about selling but each time I just go for a long drive and come back not wanting to sell.

great car—-drove a few times years ago. A friend bought one a few years ago and sold it. I loved how unhinged it felt under load and pressure—something I love about my 1M too but older M cars didn’t make you feel confident until you LEARNED it’s behaviour and I love that feeling.

from a time when sports cars were still sports cars and didn’t come with cringey gimmicks, AWD, and slush boxes.

The clown shoe was the first time I started obsessing over cars when I was in high school. Yours was absolutely beautiful.

I almost bit the bullet on a Boston Green / tan s52 car post Covid, but purchased an e28 instead.

One of the best color combos on any BMW, even more so on a clown shoe.

Still on my short list of cars to pickup at some point.

This car was like the XM; an experiment from BMW.

Only this car is actually cool and I wish I could have one.

The XM on the other hand…

I've done some fun runs with a bunch of clownshoe devotees in my Z4MC. They are definitely entertaining! The antiquated rear suspension can limit the cornering prowess somewhat, but nothing dampens the enjoyment.

So goofy looking, yet so freaking cool. Quirky in a very good way!

Back when being different wasn't ugly, whereas now most of BMW's new lineup is pretty ugly lol. But then again, what do I know? I think the Z4 coupe is one of the best looking cars but I'm usually in the minority.

Man... this brings back a funny moment from college.
I had a great thing going, I helped a sorority set up and run a charity car wash one Friday afternoon... IT WAS AMAZING!! A dude drove up in one of these and the girls laughed so hard the dude drove off... even after paying for a scrub-a-dub. (it looked like a small P3%!$ mobile they said.)
Everytime I see one, I chuckle now

Boston green was only offered 1 year in 1999 before they switched to Oxford green. Mine has 43,000 miles and I was starting to think I should trade it for an e30 M3, but not after this post. Long live the clown!
