Calif duster
Love my CF duster.
Do you all use a seperate one for wheels? It makes for a quick cleaning of the things sitting on the surface so the next rain won't look like crap. |

Mine leaves little waxy looking streaks if I use it anywhere except inside the car. I like it for the dash but that's about it. Maybe I should try a new one.

Does it leave swirls or does the static actually lift the dirt off the surface?
I had one but I know for a fact I didn't use it correctly years ago, it made a grinding sound when I used it....lol. All part of the learning process is what I told myself. Then it disappeared somewhere. |

I used to have that. As above, used it to take dust off. Stopped using it. Also used to use Kozak cloth. Anyone remember that and still use one?

Maybe for someone not using a detail light. Dragging dust and random debris off your dry car is asking for swirls and scratches over time. They'll be fine and harder to see. Lighter colors like white are more likely to get away with using it as it is more difficult to see scratches. I used to use them (10-15 years ago) as a lazy way for me to remove dust rather than having to do a quick maintenance wash, but I can't bring myself to do it any longer.

I would never use a California duster. Those things definitely swirl the paint easily.

I remember walking through the show room and could not believe how swirled the paint was.

I use a microfiber duster from Griot's. Spritz it first with a detailer. The duster can be washed. I don't use it often but, this time of year there is a lot of pollen.

Taking something that you cleaned all the mess off your wheels with and then scraping that across your paint seems like a bad idea.

If your california car duster is swirling your paint, you let something get onto the fibers, or you are pressing it into the paint. Its no different than if you drop a microfiber, or a wash mitt. If you let the duster touch anything other than light surface dust, you should likely replace it.
If your duster is leaving streaks on cold surfaces, you should wrap it in paper towels tightly, put it somewhere where its going to get hot, so it can take off the excess waxes in the strands. It will leave streaks on warm/hot surfaces or on hot days.

My favorite is it says on the cover "cleans better the dirtier it gets!"
But confession time...I still use mine a few times a year for touch ups. |
