Would You Buy This?
Renault is bringing back the Alpine. Turbo four mounted behind the front axle. RWD. Two seater. Looks pretty perfect, IMO. And what if they brought it to the States as a Nissan. Would you be interested? I certainly would. I've pined for years for a Miata Coupe. This would be pretty close. |

Renault's design sense can get extremely quirky but this looks like it has aspirations beyond France and Europe.
I'd be interested in taking a look and a drive. |

Some earlier images of the Renault Alpine Concept- this is a slightly different car than the one 1ster posted at top.
Take the gullwing doors off and figure out how to price this thing to compete with the Z4 coupe...and some of us might start brushing up on our French. Hard to see but check out the Megane-esque boat-tail where the roofline blends into the the inner rear fenders. Horrible for rear vision but great looking. |

I spent some time in Nashville over Thanksgiving and had a chance to see the Lane Motor Museum (recommend it wholeheartedly). They had an Alpine on the floor. French cars are a love and hate deal - I personally like them a LOT (but not enough to put up with one as a daily driver ; -).

Watch- they'll trojan-horse it if it debuts here...call it a Nissan as 1ster mentioned.
It'll be interesting to see how they work it- but it might be Carlos Ghosn's wetdream come true; eventually playing out as 2 separate parts-sharing brands in N/A. after reliabilty issues and the linkage to Japanese production quality is established. If that happens establishing paternity in the public conscious will be an issue that gets wide publicity. |
