2009 RX-8 Has Potential!!

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...cleId=124248#2

^This is the "RS" edition which has a little more exterior upgrades and recaro seats. You can see the minor changes though! Possible competition for the 128i! There should be a new rotary under the hood too!

WOW :eyebulge: that looks really nice. unfortunately, the ony way I would stay in the rx-8 family is if the 09 was turbocharged and reliable. I've already had to have the engine replaced in my 04. Thank you warrenty

Whenever they bring back the Rx-7 I'll be interested. The Rx-8 does handle well but sheesh it has the same torque to weight ratio as my Miata and way crappier fuel economy! I dig the rotary concept but it needs better fuel economy, lower oil consumption, and turbo boost to compete in the real world. Real world does not equal autocross IMO, even though the Rx-8 dominates B-stock.

This car does need better mpg. Any NA 4cylinder getting 16-17mpg is baaaad i my book. This tweaked version looks nice from some angles but like a Hyundai Tiburon from the side.

I really wish they would drop in the turbo direct injection i4 from the mazdaspeed6. Hell even call it something else if you have too. That would make a great rwd sport coupe.

Not enough torque down low, and a gas guzzler. Looks just like the current model.

They need to put the RX-8 in the market for a forced-induction upgrade from the factory.

Did Mazda finally get all of the quirks out of the rotary engine design?

Love the Recaros, hate the steering wheel. I still like the RX-8 but I would wait until Mazda thoroughly updates the Renesis. Some of the oil and fuel problems aren't as bad as people made them to be when the car first came out, but it still lacks torque. Now that I have what, at the very least, feels like endless torque at 1,700 rpm, I don't think I will be able to go to a car that doesn't get anything going until at least 6,500 rpm.

i know that the rx-8 isnt the fastest car in the world, but all of you that say the 8 is "slow" have you actually driven a one? il admit the AT 8s are dog slow but the 6 speeds are actually fast for what they are. For a 1.3 liter ive ran neck to neck or beat early model 350zs, s2000s, and many other cars with similar power. Anyone can drive an rx-8 but not just anyone can race it. The reason why so many people dog the rx-8 is because it doesnt live up to the speed and potential of an rx-7. All in all the rx-8 isn't slow, just not as fast as it should be.

There are a couple of quirks of the rotary that haven't been totally overcome, namely the sealing process (the sides and apexes) of the rotor and combustion chamber issues. The next gen rotary will overcome the moving combustion chamber burn problems, however, when they do direct gasoline injection.
