So get this.......
I took a new job making alot more than I made before. I have been working for this new company about a month now and absolutely love it. I since have traded in my 350Z for the new 135i. I also bought an 07 Dodge Caliber as my beater car so the 135i can stay in the garage and sleep on not-so-perfect days and the caliber can be my work (traveling) car. Anyway, a couple people saw me driving around in the caliber instead of the 350Z. I told them that "I traded the Z in for the caliber because my new job required a lot of traveling". I said this because with the production number cuts or any other number of things that could go wrong, i did not want to tell people I was getting this car and later on, not have one. So, my wife comes home from work today and tells me that someone asked her if we were declaring bankruptcy. She was shocked and said no, why. This person said she heard it from someone, but would not tell us who. I guess people are thinking because I got rid of my Z and got a caliber (for now until my 1er comes in) I am having financial difficulties (thinking I lied about how much my new job pays) and are spreading rumors....
Now my question is: Should I let this go on and shove it in thier face when i get the 135i, or should i stomp the rumor right now......I have a tendency to let it go, that way when i get the BMW, they feel sheepish.....what do you think? (Sorry, but this is kind of aggrivating and figured what better place to let it out :smile

I'd let it go. Why don't you hide your Caliber, and use a bicycle, and tell them that you got rid of the car because you feel that you need the exercise.
That will get chins wagging!

Let it go and stop telling others your finances. No reason for your freinds to know how much money you make 99.9% of the time.
If someone asks about it again, I see no reason not to clear it up and explain why you ditched the 350Z for the Calibre, but the more you seek people out to address it the more tangled it can become. |

I look at this as a positive.. at my work, they know I own a few BMWs and I take some ribbing for it. I always wonder that if during raise/bonus time, if they take that into account that "I must be making enough money"...

I wouldn't proactively broadcast why you made a change, but if someone asks, tell them the truth. When you step down in vehicle status, but people know/suspect you can still afford a higher priced car, I think you garner respect, because you aren't looked upon as a poser. You're an enthusiast who isn't badge afflicted. Of course, 350Z to Caliber doesn't quite apply here, but you get my drift...
Same thing happened to me when I sold the Z4 Coupe and got a MazdaSpeed3. For me, it wasn't about money -- it's about what I wanted and what best fit my needs at the time. Now it's time to try a 135i! |

who cares what others think - will affect your job? nope! Will it affect you home life? Nope! Will it really do anything to you other than be a mild irritant that someone is spreading pointless info about you? Nope.
So let it go and then drive round in your new 1er.....cue the chin dropping expressions from all of those who thought insolvency was in your life :-) |

It is just funny to me that when people don't know the whole story. They just seem to fill in the holes..

And if they say no, tear off your clothes, scream, "Hulk smash!!" and kick 'em in the junk.
