How are you guys with the 21" rims keeping the inner barrels clean? I did a decon when I bought the X5 and got all the little bits of dried grease out as best I could and it looked great for a few weeks but they just get dusty looking so fast.

Thinking of applying ceramic to them and then maybe something with anti static properties to help repel the dust.

Or am I just going to be spending more time cleaning than I want.

I use Adams wheel + tire cleaner diluted 1:1 and barrel brushes. Ceramic coating will help make cleaning easier

I always ceramic coat the wheels, whether stock or aftermarket. Makes cleaning them super simple.

My CS obviously has carbon ceramics so these are the easiest to clean, but my Comp has steel brakes so it’s even more beneficial there.

^ same as this guy and clean them regularly. I clean mine pretty regulary so an EZ detail wheel brush and brake buster is all i need.

I love Brake Buster from P&S. I will give the Adams tire line a try though, their ceramic glass coating didnt impress me at all unfortunately. Dont know if the laminated glass is different than my last car but it does not stay hydrophobic very long.

You could also buy some low dust brake pads, like the iSweep ones. That should keep them cleaner longer

I have a ceramic coating on the wheels. I use P&S brake buster, an EZ detail wheel brush for the barrels and a smaller detail brush for the rest. I clean my wheels and tires every time I wash my car. I think it's much easier to keep the wheels clean than to do a deep clean a few times a year.

I considered coating my wheels before but if you have to contact wash them anyway, what's even the point?

I usually wash my car every or every other weekend and if you have to brush it all anyway, there doesn't seem to be any reason to coat them?

I’m in debate mode on having mine coated as part of a 9h coating for the car (also debating PPF for front only and ceramic coating the wheels) . I pay monthy to a place that hand washes cars and I wash once to 2wice a week depending on weather and distances driven. Won’t ever do an actual car wash with the brushes and machines. Like OP was looking for just cleaner/shinnier longer type help. I use regen braking so this is a dream compared to last few 5 series when talking brake dust, but I feel like these wheels have so much more face/paint area than any of my previous cars.

Ours was dropped off yesterday morning for Ceramic Pro’s ‘newer’ Ion (hopefully it’s good, found a small number of comments folks felt the original 9h was better, &#129310, and their ‘package’ only included wheel face & calipers. They wanted me to bring it in due to a couple cancellations they had this week, (supposedly), so got them to include & comp the wheels-off full coating too. Figure if I was serious about an easier cleaning maintenance routine I should bite the bullet and have the barrels done as well. Time will tell, but I’ve yet to see anyone who coats the interior regretting having it done.

Ceramic coating makes it so much easier to clean, just like ceramic coating on the paint. Less brake dust and dirt will stick to the wheels. Even with regular cleaning, the dust will build up on non coated wheels.

I coated my wheels myself when they were new, I will do it again when the coating starts to fail. For $50, it is definitely worth it every time I wash the car.
