M3 on Speed Channel Test Drive

Just watched the M3 Test Drive on Speed -- Tommy Kendall is the host. He and Boris Said, Graham Rahal, and John Andretti put the M3 through it's paces on a variety of driving school-like tests. It was fun, and, boy, does the M3 make a nice sound.

I also saw the M3 Speed Test on TV last night. The M3 looks great, but I note it is 400 lbs heavier than the 135i and has less torque, so it is bound to feel less peppy until the higher HP becomes effective at high RPMs. Also, the wheelbase is longer so it can't feel as quick as the 135i when it turns, and it gets 20 highway MPG compared to 25 for the 135i.

Gee, I'm glad I saved my $20K for other things!

Nonetheless, I feel like getting a vanity plate for my 135i (with the Sport Package) that says "BabyM". Of course, I wouldn't actually put "Baby" on a vanity plate!

I test drove the new M3 both 4 door and coupe. I have to say it was quite peppy and handled great, allot better than the E46 in my opinion. I also found the shifting to be much better, quicker easier shifts no more notchiness. That same day I drove a dinan E46 M3 and grinded 5th twice. The new M3 was much shorter and easier shifts. Also the sound was actual awesome, i thought it was going to sound obnoxious and loud like an old V8 but it stayed true to a european note.
