Secretly Enjoying the Hate

So,

I'm secretly enjoying the hate for the new M5.

I've owned an 18 F90, and a 22 F90 CS. Both cars took some hate when they came out (although the CS not so much).

I've had a hope for the G99 since announcement, and doing what I can to get one.

Secretly, I'm enjoying the hate because it will make it easier for me to get a G99. This will be likely an ignorantly limited sale worldwide. Love for wagons is not universal. Thank you haters. Looking forward to my order. Thank goodness it's hopefully not as expensive as it could be.

If you divide the hate for the new M5 by weight and compare it to previous M5s the newest M5 is really not that bad. Hate per pound has been DRAMATICALLY lowered. BMW is staying ahead on this one.

Shawn - looking forward to you tracking the G90, and your thoughts on it when you do.

The G99 will be my daily. I’m keeping the F90 CS as a track car.

HOWEVER, I will take the G99 out on track. ONCE. Just like my Volvo V60 polestar, I have to. ONCE. I personally caused a recall on that vehicle. I blew the power inverter because the electrics couldn’t handle the high torque accelerating out of turn 1. It sat for two months waiting for a new one from Sweden.

But I will give you a report.

But this is because the denominator was raised so much that it's making up for the increased numerator. Not something to be proud of.

Kind of liking the reaction and childish comments about G90.

G99 should be perfect daily driver, similar to RS6 in terms of practicality, wagon styling and performance. Especially who doesn't like Suv's

Exactly. If you need SUV cargo space, but don’t like driving a school bus, wagons are the thing.

The sad thing is that the weight of the wagon is similar to a performance SUV. I wonder if it will drive more than an X6 M than an M5. We will see.

The XM did not. But I bet this one will. But we’ll see.

It's "childish" to rightly criticize a car for gaining almost 1200 pounds and losing performance while also increasing in cost?

Talking about those - oh nice Skoda; CaMRy; writing comments to designers and engineers "you should get fired" and etc. Who is not criticizing, but just pouring shit. And then, likely same people are gonna drool over it.

We already knew a while back ago it wouldn't even be possible to get that V8 without compromise for this M5. Just tell me which new car does not grow in size and weight. Or is it even lighter than its predecessor? Yes, it's really strange that a saloon weighs like an X5.

Of course, I don't like some of the areas (like cheapening the interior), but let's give it a try and see how this elephant performs and what future updates it will get.

I am loving the hate. Maybe BMW will stop listening to all silly regulations and B.S. and build a car, that will appeal to brand enthusiasts

The M5 F90 was not an enthusiast car (it was still a car focused on luxury and liveability above all) but it was special to drive. Let's hope they either learn that and go full out with an EV version that is lighter and special to drive, or ditch the batteries and keep that wonderful V8.

I wouldn't mind a full EV M5 (although I still am not a fan of EV tech), if the car was lighter than that and had the handling predicaments of an M car. This is just an overweight pig, it fails as an EV, and as a V8 M5.

The G90 already weighs the same as an X5M.
A G99 is going to weigh more than any SUV on the market other than the XM, which technically won't be on the market any longer.

The G99 will likely be a few pounds heavier than the Canyonero which seats over thirty passengers plus the driver.

I am curious to see when the new M5 shows up at the Performance Centers and starts being used on the track. A car that heavy is going to be brutal on consumables out at the Thermal tracks and those instructors have already been asked to try and conserve tires.

Stiggy,

I suspect you’ll never see them at the performance centers. This is a luxury fast wagon. It just is what it is on that. But Mercs and Audi’s fast wagons aren’t much on being used as track demonstrators either.

I’ve seen plenty of M5s at the performance centers. I don’t think bmw will hold the new ones off, especially if they want to keep talking about the car another great M product.

I agree that they won't have the wagon there, but they've had the sedans for quite some time and I would expect that to continue.

I own this thing for better part of 7 years now and I agree on utility. Ive always liked long roof cars but SUVs are simply not my thing. I had high hopes for M5 wagon and really thought we would buy used one in 2-3 years or so however there’s something about those new cars that I genuinely hate. All screen dashes. Just another cost cutting thing for manufacturers. One fits all except for some software changes. No physical buttons for basic things like temperature controls and such. It’s somehow safe to dig into menus but unsafe to text or call. Sound coming from speakers. In so called sport sedan… My M5 was 130k and it doesn’t come close to what this car in photo sounds like. I will not mention weight cause that topic have been beaten to death (by myself included) I could accept this new car if it hasn’t been called M5. Maybe demand will not be there and it would help with depreciation as it always does with BMW that seems to be one of the worst in this aspect on the market. Good luck in getting yours and I really think you will enjoy it. however I honestly hope this will be turning point for BMW as a brand. I don’t see single offering in their lineup now that would interest me. My M5 just came from service again for more issues caused by leaky expansion tank… I don’t expect them to be super reliable but them adding hybrid drive… I currently have 4 BMW cars. This will 100% change in near future.

F90 M5 is lighter than the F10 M5 while adding an all-wheel-drive system
