I have yet to see a pre production drive not be postive..absent the mention of the scale vs how it feels in reality.

Car And Driver review on track was very underwhelming. On road, they have a different view.

Let's wait and see, we will probably have comparos on Q3, and people who have migrated from competitors, allowing us to see how good the car really is.

I believe it will drive well (BMW M would never put an M badge on nothing that drove awfully), but I have really big doubts on terms of how it will feel, and how it will compare to the RS6 C8, M5 F90, E63 W213. My guess is that it will be worse.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I have zero interest in taking this car to the track? I would happily take on-road compliance and give some up on lap times.

I want a fast family hauler that will feel “sporty” since I don’t have room for a second vehicle. I would love an Alpina version rather than an M5 honestly, but in the US that isn’t an option.

I have seen M5’s at drag strips and runway rolls more often than I have seen them at track days on road courses. To me it doesn’t seem like the M5 buyer is interested in on-track performance anymore.

I don't care about track driving either. But the thing is, if it falls apart on a track, it will fall apart when driven hard on the road.

A car's handling on track is a good insight on how it will handle when driven hard outside of the track environment.

And at 2,5 tonnes, there is so much electronics and technology can do.

BMW can "hide the weight" so well that they missed an opportunity on handling by making the car 6300 pounds instead of 5300.

I disagree about the track time being a good test of the car in the real world. Sure, cornering stresses are there, and you can get an idea of how the car handles its weight. But all we’ve seen of the M5 is those silly studio walkarounds, and then the carefully managed laps around Salzburgring, which I think is chosen because it is a fast track without a lot of tight turns which reporters in a heavy car might overcook.

Where are the real world tests, on real roads that are not smooth as glass race tracks, roads with tight turns, where (frankly) you don’t really need 700+ hp? Does it handle? How is the ride quality there? Does it bottom out?

I’m considering this car, despite the misguided styling of the front and rear valences, but I am not so willing to commit to placing an order without at least some real world driving test videos, much less actually getting a test drive.

The M5 sedan and touring were presented right here in CA recently at Pebble Beach, but was anyone allowed to drive it? No.

So I currently have in my possession a service loaner 24 7 series m60i. Overall nice car. Although I prefer the looks of the previous gen. But looks aside. What it had me thinking is if the g90 would feel similarly. The 7 series I’m driving is almost 5200 lbs. So similar weight to the m5. Granted this isn’t as buttoned down etc is floaty by comparison I’m sure to the m5. That said when transitioning between curves even modestly you feel the weight. Now that fine imo for this type of boulevard cruiser. Which is what this is. Very nice ride soft etc. But you definitely feel the weight. Not. Repeat not. What you want in a more serious performance sedan car whatever. I said to my myself Jesus if this is what the m5 feels like even close to feel like when transitioning the car. I’m so glad I passed on that thing. I wouldn’t have been happy with that. 140k and that’s the feel? Ehh no thanks

So I know it’s not an exact comparison but weight is weight. My 23 x5mc which weighed in the same ball park felt way better obviously but still you felt the Weight. I didn’t mind it in that though since it was an SUV. This is not. So I don’t know what to say. I would love to hear what a non partial reviewer had to say. Not one that scared to tell the truth for fear of not being invited to the next bmw event.

You don't want the first year of a new model anyway. That's where the problems are usually most likely. Don't pay to be a beta tester.

That’s my usual policy too. I’m just bored with my current car and getting a little trigger happy about getting a replacement in the pipeline.

Actually, you are not in the minority because 90% of M5 owners will never take their car to the track. This is why BMW does not care much about the G90 M5's weight gain.

Then why are the first drives and semi reviews of the car all driven on a track and not the street or some backroads. I have seen many videos of other reveals where they’ve done it in Arizona for example and had the rods closed so they can test the cars out there. This time they went out of their way to have a track for the first reviews. Wonder why hmmmm.

Exactly. The Porsche and other BMW first drive events are in Portugal, and they get to drive some backroads. The M5 first drive was Salzburgring, following a pace car to manage their speed on the glass smooth, relatively flat and sometimes slightly banked track.

I don’t do track driving, but I appreciate the driving dynamics of the M5 over the 5 series cars, which is why I own one. If I did do track driving, I really don’t think an M5 would be my vehicle of choice. I mean my F10 M5 is 4300 lbs, and even on KW V3 I’m well aware the weight is there but it’s a fun time anyway on the backroads This was up from my previous sports car DDs, which were around 3200 lbs.

Could be they haven’t worked out the suspension tuning for real roads yet, but got a tuning for Salzburgring, hence all the press driving took place there. I still think it odd that Pebble beach included no driving.

How long is it until the first deliveries are scheduled?

Where were you able to get that statistic? 90 % is much more precise than others who say “nearly nobody”.

I would think it's more like 99% of M5 owners never track them.

But, then again, 95% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

It’s true the XM is definitely not what I would call a gift track car. Despite the fact that bmw screaming from the roof tops about how it’s the only dedicated true M car on their line up. Built from ground up an a real M blah blah. 🙄. Things a freaking real tank. I’m still a bit sour about what they did here and i the problem is we’re going to be stuck with this hybrid heavy shit coming from bmw for the foreseeable future. Ev adoption is slowing and companies are changing direction and not dumping the baby and the bath water all in on ev like they were which is good. Problem is these things are on development pipeline for years so they can’t just swivel and change plans on a dime. Hence the g90 😑

The XM drives well (handling/cornering) for it is weight and and being an SUV
Also braking was surprisingly good despite no ceramic on the one i drove
I did not like the powertrain and it was not smooth but i know from other people that the label red was much better and i assume they fixed that with the M5
