Bad sign? BMW USA shows 12 G90's available

According to the BMW USA website, there are 12 G90's in transit to dealers across the country, and it lists the VIN for each - seems logical then that all these dealers had more allocations than pre-orders... which in many cases might be just 1 allocation... so the dealer literally had 0 pre-orders?

TBH, I was a bit surprised to see ANY in what must be the ~1st tranche of G90s for the global release in November.

Is this to be expected / happened before for previous M car releases?

Or are way more folks than usual holding off until the reviews?

Doubt that's right. I called one dealer in my area and they told me i would be 12th in line for the G90 if i wanted it. Another local dealer told me i would be 5th. Considering how many dealers are out there the numbers would be way way higher than just 12 cars.

To clarify - I mean that there are 12 showing as available for purchase (posted by dealers.... they are just unsurprisingly in transit rather than on the lot). And based on what you're saying about waiting lists, the fact that there are 12 that dealers are posting for sale and thus are not yet spoken for / sold to customers is what is surprising to me.

Wondering if these could be HEA cars already spec'ed by dealers ahead of time just now arriving...

I’m not sure if this has changed, but when I was stalking M5 CS cars at dealers to find one — I recall the cars would not show up on the dealer website until the delivery was somewhat imminent. The cars were usually at the port/VPC when they would first show/be listed. They could be days to weeks away from delivery at that point based on logistics, recalls, etc.

If it hasn’t changed — then those 12 might be cars actually sitting at VPCs right now in the US with more to follow.

Also, can you share how you are finding these M5s on BMW USA’s website? I never saw a way to check nationwide inventory. Are you going in and checking inventory in different zip codes and selecting the 100 mile radius and covering the country this way or is there a better way? I don’t see anything listed locallly or within a few other major markets but I just checked a few like Houston, LA, Chicago, NYC, and Miami areas.

That is the case. BMWUSA usually shows all vehicles in transit to dealers regardless of sold or not. I ran into this when I was looking for an M3 comp. Every one I thought was in transit and possibly available was already sold and ordered.

By comparison, my dealer in Dallas where I have my M5 on order has 49 people on the waitlist at one dealer and 36 on the list at their other dealer. I don't think you are going to find many dealers that hae these vehicles unsold before they arrive at the dealers at initial launch. Sewell, one of largest M dealers in the country, is only getting ~2/month and I'm glad mine is going into production in a few weeks.

Well that's silly.

The waitlist for an allocation for the M5 touring is around eight to twelve deep several states around where I am in the south east. There's absolutely no way there's going to be just 12 M5s sitting around on lots unsold.

That is lot of M5 sales. I live in DFW and given the number of BMW dealerships in the area, there could be deliveries of 7+ per month. I guess we will see how this holds up. If the demand is that high, we could be flooded with G90 cars. Did he/she distinguish between the waitlist for the G90 and G99?

Thank you for clarifying! Super glad to hear others are also excited for the new M5. Mine is scheduled for production in 2 weeks - hopeful for a mid-December delivery.... early christmas gift to myself

Highly unlikely...dealers will show a car incoming online even through its already sold and in transit.

Call the dealership and ask if it's actually available as odds are it's not.

As of a few weeks ago, I don’t think my dealer had any sedan orders if someone wants a shorter waitlist

If I had to guess the moment reviews comes out the orders will spike. Unless you are on the forums or social media the masses probably don’t know about this car.

Anyone know when the press embargo will be lifted so we can start consuming content? 😁 Are there even any press cars yet?

No, not yet. At least, not in the hands of the press. I'd imagine the press cars will start to go out a few weeks before initial deliveries (which may be next month), so I'd expect all the reviewers to have their videos/articles ready to post early November.

Nah, I would bet they are all sold. The car is going to be hot. The masses do not care about the weight.

Wat. There’s no way to see their sales status publicly. These are the number of cars impending delivery though. Should start showing up on dealer lots soon I assume. Public statements say next Wed is the first G90 to a customer in the US. Maybe right after we will see them at dealerships — sold or otherwise.

Reviews are done but held by date embargo. Someone from the press on this forum said embargo ends next week... So possibly the internet will be flooded instantaneity by every reviewers next week, not sure which day...
