Just watched straight pipes and top gear. Didn’t even discuss handling or take a turn. Just rambling on about straight line speed

🤣

I take that back top gear had a very fair review. I’ve adjusted my expectations a bit more and I’m interested in the wagon now

Joe Achilles review and BMW Blog both discuss the handling. Looks pretty darn good.

Yes, I spent little time on the Autobahn. I already knew the car is silly fast after taking a right hander on the track at 300 kph. All I wanted to see was how the car handles when pushed a bit. And I didn't wanna go 8 or 9/10ths either. Just wanted to see what a normal driver would feel with the car.

So I focused mostly on handling, driving modes, suspension, steering input and comparison to F90 and XM.

In the upcoming longer reviews, we will test other things, including an actual EV range test.

HB - watched your review as well. As usual - nice work. I’ll probably wait for the LCI - but I’m excited about the new car.

Comprehensive review - great job! Also seemed more accurate with the facts and figures than others.

(And thanks so much for taking my ask for the cabin noise test! Even if you would have done that anyway, I’ll just pretend it was my suggestion )

Two main follow-up questions:
1) Cabin noise: Fair enough… I would expect it to be less cocooned than a 7 series, but if you had to compare it to a 3 series or 7 series, to which is it closer? And if you’ve driven other competitors, how did you feel it stacks up against those?
2) Did the BOOST function seem a bit gimmicky? By the time it ‘flashed’ in the instrument cluster to acknowledge…. and then flashed BOOST on the cluster, it seemed somewhat laggy to me. Did it feel a bit laggy to engage? Also, it isn’t obvious to me (albeit I haven’t driven the car) as to the difference between using BOOST and just setting M2 button to sportiest setting and using that instead. What advantage does BOOST provide?

That was the goal, to cover a bit more details otherwise all video reviews are the same

The cabin noise? Honestly, I only did it once before with the iX. But apparently the app I was using it's actually really good because the iPhone's mics work better than those cheap sound devices on Amazon.

1. The cabin sound is closer to a 7 Series than 3.

2. There was a lag, but only sometimes. I think it has to do something with speed. It only works up to a certain speed or above a certain speed. I need to follow up. And this is why sometimes it wouldn't activate immediately.

I can ask the question about Boost vs M2 setup. In theory, they should be the same, but it has to be a software difference if BMW is offering that as an option

I’ve only watched about 3 reviews so far, but it sounds exactly like what we all thought it would be: nothing to write home about, but not bad either, considering everything they had to do to make it modern. Overall value for this much power seems to be the main selling point, which is something I really loved about my 2 F90s. Yes the weight is up considerably, but they’ve done a good job hiding it, which we expect since they’re always so great at weight management. Love that.

Will be interesting to drive one.

Agreed. I’m entertaining a lot of other ideas (RS6 Avant, Macan Turbo electric, G80, etc.), and I think folks touting the hybrid configuration maybe haven’t driven a hybrid with this much power before, and maybe don’t realize how annoying it is to carry around a charging cable everywhere they go. It’s a nice advantage, but can be a drag sometimes. Plus the LCI will improve on it, making this one feel like a lame duck, which is insane.

Crazy car world rn for sure…

Shaping up to be pretty good after all…however I think the LCI will really be the one to get.

Straight Pipes review was fun but not very informative. I never doubted the G90 could be a controlled-access highway demon. Other reviewers suggest cornering is fine but you just gotta assume engineering can only mask the weight to a certain point.

Yes, I spent most of my day out of the Autobahn and onto backroads. To me top speed doesn't matter much in a car like that. I already knew it can do that.

I said it in both my video and print review, you feel it. But it also depends how you drive the car. I don't think most owners would drive it close to the limit. Where you feel the weight more is during braking at heavy speeds. I learned how to either brake a bit early or to control the car by throttle steering.

I watched Joe's review last night,...and thought he did a good job in his review,...he didn't whine like a 'little joey' as he has done in some of his reviews! Much respect!!!!!
