Steel brakes?
Im sure its too soon to know, or make a claim, since it seems it starts to occur after at least 3-5k miles are put on them...
... But Anyone here have a G90 with the steel compound brakes experience the dreaded M5 (and many others) brake squeal? LOL. If I were to go with a G90, I would likely opt for the carbon ceramics... However, I would be interested to know if this extra 800-1000lbs, or regen. braking, does anything to mitigate the U Haul truck sound track that seems to accompany many M5's with steel brakes. My F90 (even with relatively fresh pads and new oem rotors) as well as my F10 have the most horrendous brake squeal i've experienced on any car. That could be reason alone for me to pick up a G90 LOL. Thats one, if not the ONLY thing I can not stand about M cars, and M5's more specifically. I dont get why they cant fix it after so many years of the same issue. I get it, "performance brakes" blah blah blah. I've had many cars with similar "performance" brakes that dont squeal like a piggy when coming to a slow stop. Maybe the G90 is the winner winner chicken dinner on brake squeal? LOL |

So, brake noise is a result of many factors of high performance systems, including them being dirty.
I would assume it would be case by case for every owner. You may also not be aggressive enough when braking to clean the buildup off. Often times if you drive it like you stole it the noise goes away Last edited by DocWeatherington; 12-19-2024 at 04:57 AM.. |

No doubt squeaking is coming soon
What do you expect with a 5400 lb car?

it's brake dust to blame usually, 1st thing I did to my G87 was swap the pads out before the brake dust could build up in/around the calipers. Having to immediately rip out brand new pads on my brand new car is a whole other issue (wtf BMW lol) but it chopped the dust down by 80-90% and no squeal

I drive quite aggressive. And I understand what you're saying, but I would have to give people whiplash coming to a stop. But some BMW steel compound brakes are quiet. Some arent. Ive had very similar type of brakes on other cars that did not squeal and screech. But both M5s i've owned are horrendous. I got all 4 brand new brakes installed maybe 5-7,000 miles ago, and was quiet for a while, but theyre back to being louder than a Uhaul. Ive done the 70MPH slam on your brakes technique that BMW offers to remedy the situation. and it works, but only for the remainder of that drive. It comes right back. Ive tried a deep cleaning with the wheels off. Ive tried compressed air. Wheel cleaner, pressure washing. Nothing works long term. I drive pretty aggressively but I shouldnt have to slam on my brakes coming to an every stop light to make the car not sound like a 2500.00 beater. its a car with an msrp of 130,000.00, its a poor design by BMW. Because bmw is by far the worst when it comes to this. |

The brake dust is a-whole-nother issue I wish they could figure out. Because it's horrible. But the after market pads ive tried are definitely sub par in performance , even though the dust is less. The squeal however, always comes back. Like clock work. Next car is definitely going to have CCB, which have their own little squeal. but nothing like the steel brakes. and the CCB the small squeal tends to go away after the brakes are warm. |

Steel brakes on my F90 were the loudest and most horrible sounding brakes that I have encountered at anytime in my life. It was a complete embarrassment. Everywhere I would go when I got out of the car people would ask "What the hell is wrong with your car?" Totally unacceptable for a $120k+ car to be that way, under any circumstances.
