G90 M5 Exhaust Sound Improvements Needed

I drove my new csr today from dealership to detailer (270 mile) and i have to say the car drives nicely , handles really well given the weight (same handling as my m8), doesnt feel heavy, extremely comfortable (x5 comfortable) , responsive and fast from any gear
The main 2 things that i did not like at all
1: Exhaust sounds all faked pumped in speakers sounds with fake pops inside lol and outside the car sounds really bad like a 4 cylinder with no rumbles or crackles at all with the highest setting (i was shocked how quiet and bad it is compared to my previous stock M8)
I am getting secondary catless downpipes but to be honest may not be enough and may need X pipe or catback exhaust with it (this is how bad it is from outside)
2: Downshifts are so laggy compared to other M cars (as fast as my regilar X5 40 i)
Upshifts are fine but too much snappy (kind of jerky)
Hoping the improve the shifts with a software update or so
Overall it is a great daily driver and a good car except for the exhaust note (i will repeat that
REALLY BAD

Hopefully some mid-pipes will fix it, but it might need a full cat back. I would love a valved cat-back tied into the CAN Bus so it open only in certain modes.

Just got my G90 today. Love it so far, but is super quiet. I thought there was something wrong with it when I first started it ha. Does anyone know if the exhaust wakes up a bit after the break in service? Maybe I didn’t have it in dynamic before starting but I am pretty sure that I did. Disappointing!

When you say “bad” is it mostly that the true outside sound is too quiet or is it more that the tone is wrong? I spent some considerable time driving the car, but only a little listening outside. It seemed to me the tone was low and rumbly-ish in idle, but really the whole thing was not much louder than other big german comfort sedans i’ve driven, unless i punched it.

In my opinion, just a cat back won’t do. It won’t make that nasty M5 sounds with turbo spools and crackles. They have too many stuff on the exhaust, 4 cats, 2 mid section resonators and 3 mufflers.

Have of this needs to be gone asap😂

You’re thinking of an “axle-back exhaust”. A cat back literally replaces everything from the cats back. Basically everything after the downpipes is replaced.

Oh yeah, you are right, mixed up the terms 😅

Axle-back won’t fix the sound issues.

Deleting my original message, as I wrote exactly what you did, just worded differently. Reading is hard. My bad.

and people will shy away from replacing downpipes for warranty reasons, don't want to give BMW any rope to hang you with if your engine/powertrain goes bang so best bet is to stick with the rear half of the exhaust system mods

My F90 had 2ndary downpipes, Dinan X pipe, Dinan Axle back and it sounded nasty. Hopefully Carbahn will have something similar.

As far as the downshifts go, did you move the transmission setting to level 3 on the transmission and it still shifted laggy?

Bet that sounded nice. I had the Remus catback with catless primaries and stock secondaries. Enjoyed it for sure.

Yep all highest setting for transmission with D3 with engine sport plus and dynamic plus as well
The upshift were overkill and brutal and downshifts laggy
I think throttle house guys noticed the same thing

Not surpised the G90 sounds so muted. F10 and F90 were both underwhelming.

I have an MPE on my current F90 and that really materially improves the exhaust note.

I’m assuming BMW will offer an MPE option for this platform for those who prefer not dealing with any warranty issues or prefer a port-installed option.

There will also be plenty of axle-back and cat-back options from the usual aftermarket companies.

Yes upshifts are brutal to the point it feels like it will break. And btw, any feeling like the transmission downshifts on lowest drive logic with dynamic plus is a bit wonky sometimes.. almost jerks sometimes when you are coming to a stop and throttle a little bit to speed up.

The other thing I’m noticing is extensive amount of winter condensation vapor from exhausts after cold start. It seems to create a cloud plume whenever I crank it up in the morning, i don’t remember that in my other cars
