New to me G90 M5 & comparison vs my F90

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I thought I’d give it a try, and compare it to F90. Since I have both now.
Got this Marina Bay Blue one with Red Interior.
I do like, but I will probably not keep it for long.
It drives great, feels quite close to a BMW XM, but handles way better then XM.
Feels faster than F90 even though it is not.
Seats are noticeably comfier than F90 seats. But not by a lot. I can’t find the button to adjust knee support bolster, maybe it doesn’t have that 🤷🏻*♂️
Also disappointed that it doesn’t have adjustable seat back.
B&W sounds noticeably better in G90 then same one in F90.
If you ever had F10 and loved Bang & Olufsen in it, then you probably felt disappointed about B&W in F90,
But I really enjoying music in G90 after numb sound quality in F90.
Would be nice to have massaging option in front seats.
No soft close feels like a miss out. Hopefully they will add that next year.
No active outside handles in rear door makes it feel cheap.
Whatever they used to upholster the seats feels rough, i can’t say that it feels cheap, but you can definitely tell it’s not real leather,
My F90 has full leather and it even smells fancy.
G90 doesn’t have that obvious scent in it, my G80 even smelled more BMW-ish then G90

Why not keep the car? Sounds like you like it more than the F90 outside of a few minor items.

Thanks for posting.

Whatever about the dig, G9x is widely reported to be faster than F90 on the roll.

Do you reckon it’s slower?

If so, is it bot being run-in a factor?

Thank you for the honest review. I've had F10 competition, e60, and F90 CS. Very excited about G90 but holding off for so many reasons you mentioned above: soft close doors, better audio availability, more HP maybe with higher trim? Will consider it end of 2025.

Great cars!

I’m waiting for wagon to be more available

G90 is faster in most conditions, because it’s bigger it may not feel like it.

Not sure what you meant about the seats upholstery not being leather, maybe different types of leather.
Remember it’s more luxury then sport.

Purity of m5 is e39, and that silver e60 is more pure then next generations. That’s the car world now. That’s why e39’s jumped so high in price and will continue to go up

I’d be curious as to a full bodied comparison to previous generations.

I doubt anybody, unless you ride the wave and are blind to the art, would hold the G90 in higher esteem than an e39 or possibly even an e60.

So what’s the reason of keeping F90 if G90 is better than F90 per your post?

G90 with Marina Bay Blue exterior and Orange interior looks nearly perfect in my humble opinion. But no car is perfect since it represents the compromise between form, function, supply chain costs, and consumer sentiment forecasted at least 3 years ahead.

Thanks for sharing! Your G90 as configured would be my choice if I were shopping for one.

Its pretty awesome machine, I enjoyed electric mode in it too, quite awesome to drive around town in silence
Right now it doesn’t rev past 5500 so hard to compare it to F90,
I’m saying that it’s slower simply based on YouTube videos

I had F90 in Tanzanite Blue, but that wasn’t my color so never felt attached to it, so sold it after 8 months
This one I bought simply for its color, I love red bmw

When BMW started testing G90 at the end of 2022, if you remember, BMW Blog (and few other magazines) were saying that expected MSRP was similar to XM, at around 150k or so, that was with all the options, which we can see on XM, such as Full Leather, Soft Close doors, Keyless Access on all 4 doors.
And at that expected MSRP, I assume, they would have trouble selling that M5 to potential customers. So they had to sacrifice some stuff to lower the price.
Few weeks ago I saw a post on BMW-Blog that next year BMW is planning on mild facelift, which will add options to the configurator, and people will be able to option their cars with more stuff
Then there will be a Label Red M5 too, and it will be loaded same as XM

My car is still in brake in period, and doesn’t rev past 5500 rpm.
And even then it feels crazy fast. What’s scary about it, is that G90 is more sound proof than F90 (and F90 is pretty comfy at highway speeds) and if you don’t pay attention to your speed, you don’t even notice how fast you going, you cruising down the highway, listening to music, next thing you know you’re going 90
.
Thing is, progress with cars are reaching the point, where next step will be producing flying cars, you can only make cars as powerful and as fast…
.
Seats are noticeably more comfortable in G90 vs F90
But leather feels different
IMO G90 seats are like Veganza seats and F90 seats are Merino leather in a 530e
Of course not as big of a difference in terms of how you feel it when you touch it but it’s still there, kinda. Other then that it feels more luxurious compared to F90

I think true M5 ended with F90.
We are entering new era of fast cars, hybrid and electric.
G90 is something similar to very first M5 E28,
E28 started the Ultimate Driving Experience for BMW. And same with G90, G90 started new era of M cars IMO

I want to mention, that BMW also made The Digital Key functionality way better then in F90,
You don’t need to open up your “wallet” in your cellphone, and place your phone next to the handle to unlock the car, and then place it in the tray to activate the ignition.
In G90, once you set up Digital Key, you don’t even have to pull out your phone anymore, car recognizes the key when you walk up to the car and unlocks it for you, you get in and push the start/stop button and you good to go
