M5 Spare Tire like the 550e?
So there's this interesting post ( link below ) on here where 550e owners took delivery of cars with, to their surprise, an installed spare - yielding logical complaints about trunk space.
HOWEVER....I found this very intriguing. I'm leaving a decade of Tesla driving and the warm embrace of Tesla roadside, where they drive up with a spare tire and just pop it on your car - making all your flat tire troubles go away. ( I've had to use this more than once.) Day in, day out - I don't care much. I live in an area with plenty of dealers within relatively short drives. BUT, I do like to head out on trips and frequently these are to the middle of not exactly nowhere, but easily hours from somewhere. Having the ability to pop in a secured spare tire into the trunk would be a really great option for those occasions. SO....Do we know if this option is available for the M5 as it is for the 550e. Best I can tell, the trunk dimensions are the same. I asked my dealer, who said a too quick no. But, I'm there must be a way to solve the Rubik's cube of BMW ordering to get this to work. Anyone know anything about this? Thoughts? https://g60.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2152846 Last edited by thinker; 02-07-2025 at 07:41 AM.. |

With the amount of people complaining about weight on the G90, BMW would get disemboweled if they included a spare tire in this car. To my knowledge, I don't think there has ever been a modern full- M car with an included spare tire/wheel (but i'm sure that if i'm wrong, someone will correct me lol).

On cars like the M5 you would have issues that wouldn’t let you use a space saver spare and with big wheels like this a full size would take up WAY too much room.
I think a space saver that could support the weight would be a problem. Also, many performance cars cannot use a space saver spare because the wheel physically will not clear the brakes. On my RS6 even some 21” full size wheels will not clear the brakes. The M5 CCB’s are not too much smaller. |
