Run-in service -Oil availability issue

Hi folks,

Arrived at my dealer to book a run-in service. Was told no way as none of the special oil grade G9x needs was available and that there’s a shortage of it.
Luckily, I had previously booked the car in but had to postpone due to failure to hit the mileage target and they had my oil in stock due to that original booking.

So, top tip… book you run-in service early so you don’t get grounded!!

They ran out maybe with all the January G90s hitting there run-in service almost at the same time. My dealer had 9 booked and i was third to do the run-in service. I booked for the service when taking delivery to avoid any kind of shortage. They are selling like hot cakes here XD

If we put aside the marketing I think that there is no special oil... It's just synthetic 0W-30.

Well, I don’t think anyone is under the illusion that it’s made from postpartum, harvested stem cells or anything but still, you don’t want to be giving them outs for mechanical warranty by instructing to fit something else. 😉

There’s been enough big end bearings in the S63, perhaps they’ve done something in S68 and worked with a lube manufactuer to create something that lessens the risk of a spun bearing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It seems so …and not surprising. Salesguy told me their allocation is gone. You’d be a while waiting for one now.

Other than diff and engine fluid changes, what updates are they doing? Sounds like a software update and some "unlocking" of power - anyone have details?

According to another thread here of someone trying to drift his car before run-in he noticed power was cut and that was a big frustration point for him. He reported back that there was no longer this issue after the run-in service ... So i'm guessing some engine protection mechanism are readjusted and allow sustained high rev / load after run in.
