Inconsistent gear shifting when accelerating
I've now had a couple of times when accelerating from standstill to 40-50mph (and not fully flooring it) the car gets jumpy as if it can't properly shift into gear. Usually this happens when running hybrid on EV and during the shift to ICE.
Today I had more severe occurrence where flooring it a bit harder (not all the way as the car is still in break-in period) from standstill in spots mode the car literally kept jumping forward, struggling to shift gears and also making a loud bang noise somewhere in the back. Drives fine after it, could not see any damage, no engine lights or anything. Anyone experienced something similar? |

In my experience the ZF8 is jerky in the first 100 miles or so of driving. As the software learns and adapts to your driving style it becomes much smoother.

Yep I have had that sudden Jerky shift multiple times, it almost happens every time at a hilll for me when I am letting off the gas and the car seems confused and does a loud thud shift almost reminding of a Mazda I had back in the 90s that had a broken transmission. This happens to me randomly in different shifting situations. I think it has to do with dynamic and dynamic plus modes and level 1 in drive logic. I think the car setup with max power and lowest transmission shift speed does not sit well with the software.

The other issue that I notice is that when climbing on my steep drive way, the car doesn’t roll back as if it’s on “hold” setting while it’s not. It’s as if the electric motor gets jammed up and does know what to do and tries to hold the car in a weird way, and creates this jerky motion.

While I don’t have my G90 yet to test this, none of this sounds new or novel when it comes to BMW transmissions.
My F80 did this sort of thing all the time. Sport Plus and Drive Logic 1 and you get rpm’s so freaking low the car starts to stutter you felt like it was going to stall. Sport Plus and Drive Logic 3 if you didn’t ride the throttle just right it felt like you were riding a bucking stallion. This may be nothing like this, but my point is that none of it sounds strange to me.

On the G90 the shift between EV and ICE is rough. the gearing for the EV and ICE is different, for example the EV train will never use all 8 gears and probably stays between 1 and 6 so when the ICE have to take over it needs to shift to the appropriate gear fro ICE. In Electric, Dynamic and Dynamic plus there are no issues with the gearbox. |

Folks its 100% due to the EV motor on the tranny. Under load in hybrid mode it has to balance off and on and the spin of the tranny/EV motor then rpm match the tranny/ev motor and the ICE motor taking in consideration load. Sometimes it gets tripped up and does a bad shift and this is especially true when cold.
With that drive the car in a sports setting on the powertain side in which the motor stays on. |

Happens fairly regularly with my current X5 45e, usually at lower speeds. Makes a horrible grinding noise and then jolts forwards. Car is fine and it's been doing it for the last 3 years.
