So my friend just bought a 1992 Mitsubishi 300gt VR4 and I must admit that on paper, it should be serious competition for the 135 out-of-the-box. Since I have no knowledge on them or the Dodge Stealth for that matter, I thought I'd ask you guys.

Wiki rates both their DOHC 24v V6 twin turbo egines at 300hp at 6000 rpm and 307 torque at 2500 rpm. Stock for stock I dont know how they will stack up considering AWD drivetrain loss and also our torque seems to kick in a little bit sooner. Modified, I've heard about some good numbers from these beasts and I'm sort of intimidated. I'm interested in learning more about these cars possibly from previous owners, not because I would ever take one over a 135, but solely to know how I will stack up against my competition. :thumbup:

The stats were quite good on the Mitsu in terms of raw performance. In additiion, it had some pretty impressive performance tech back in the day... 4 wheel steering, active aero dynamics, etc. The Dodge was a re-badged Mitsu and Mitsu kept the fancy toys as mentioned earlier.

It was a fairly impressive performer for its era at about a 5.6 0-60. Modded, is of course, a different story since any boosted car usually has some headroom to be exploited with some creative tuning. Where it would likely really fall off is in the twisties, since modern suspension has really worked wonders.

Those things were pretty damn heavy for a performance car in those days. They're up around 4k lbs. They would run high 13 second 1/4 miles at times, but mostly low 14s. If it's anywhere close to stock, you've got nothing to worry about.

I was seriously looking into a VR4. But, the fact of the matter is if your not purchasing the car with a clean title and under 100k miles. The car is going to have many problems. Sure it's a sweet car with good power, but the car weighs around 3800lbs. The stock boost of the car is 12psi. So the car will end up running lean and fry those piston rings. (At least what I've read). The car runs a 13.3 stock which is amazing. Hope your friend enjoys it!! :thumbup:

I owned one 15 years ago. Great car for its day like it was mentioned, 4 wheel steering, electronic suspension control, beautiful exterior, but in the end very heavy. surprisingly very reliable though and can be had for a steal. Once I get a large enough garage, I will put another black stealth R/T (91-93) in my garage for nostalgia's sake. It was a meaningful car for its day and brings back lots of wonderful memories.

Not sure why you mentioned you were scared? Scared of what? a car? for real?

You know I always wondered, Exactly what is meant by "4-wheel STEERING"?
I understand AWD but is this different?(the wording would suggest it)

lol I'm not scared of it I was just thinking it would give the 135 a run for its money so I decided to learn a little more about it. :wink:
