By the way, this is not a political thread, i don't really care about your views or negative comments about America and it's citizens owning weapons because you come from a country free of crime where guns aren't needed. I ask that you not let your political views interfere with the purpose of this thread. If you have a problem with this, start your own thread and we can debate until we are blue in the face. I ask kindly that no one get this thread locked like every other one on this site about guns. If you don't like it, don't look at it. 3 tours in Iraq 1 in Afghanistan and 1 in Afghanistan coming up next month should garner me at least a little respect from you to leave this thread from persecution. Thank you.

I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure the grip is to help steady the gun from recoil. I also think that the bottom part unscrews and it serves as a small storage area. Not 100% on it though.
To the OP: Did you get the AR-15 locally or via web?

Yoda, Light Sabers are always welcomed
I use the forgrip strictly for my attachments like flashlight and laser. They come with pressure grips on them attached to a chord that can be attached to the forgrip so you can squeeze it to turn on either the flashlight or laser without having to take your hand off the weapon to find an on/off switch. I prefer to fire the weapon with my hand on the front of the magwell. Also, it does have a mini storage department in it to store extra batteries for flashlight/laser. I got that AR-15 when I was stationed up at Barksdale AFB in Louisiana, but there are gun stores and shows locally that have them for very reasonable prices. If you order from the internet, it will be cheaper, but you have to pay shipping and a fee for someone with an FFL to do all the paperwork for you, so it ends up being the same. A lot of shops will price match the internet as well. Coles in Clearwater gives crazy deals to people and they are willing to work with you. |

I'd rather deal with someone locally, saves the work of going through all the paper work faxing, shipping, etc. I'm about an hour and a half from Clearwater so I may have to check out Coles.

Currently I've got a Taurus .40, a Remington .243 that I used to use for varmit hunting, and couple of low end shot guns I shoot skeet with when I get the chance.

Very, very nice collection. Once i graduate and can afford a gun safe i hope to get a AR-15 and glock 26 for concealed carry. Blackwater is pretty near by me and they have a custom edition of the AR-15 (BW15) that rules.

Our government has made me hand in my interesting ones over the years for the good of the public.... but I still have a lot of WW2 era bolt actions from when I was collecting them. The good thing is they were junk when I was buying them... now they are sought after collectibles.
No1 Mk3* target rifle. M17 from WW1 Swedish M96 from 1913.. by far the most accurate of the lot. |

Personally, I have a Kahr MK9 that sits in my bedroom (and, occasionally, is carried concealed) for self-defense purposes and target shooting. @JKAWB: How do you like the Crimson Trace? They just came out with one for the MK9, so I was thinking of getting one whenever my IRS rebate check (finally) comes in. And Barksdale AFB in the house! I was actually born at the base hospital, and lived there until I was about 8. Been a while since I've seen it.... |

It tends to be used on automatic rifles to help the front from going up on you. Some of them unscrew, some dont. The one on my Ak unscrews and my AR does not.
