Sultan of Brunei's BMW Car Collection

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I recently watched this great video showing the efforts this chap went to to try and view the Sultan of Brunei's huge car collection. Whilst ultimately he failed, he did manage to see a small part of the Sultan's sisters collection. The video also goes into detail why the family are so protective of the collection.

Anyway, this reminded me to share some photos of the Sultan's BMW collection that I found some time ago.

what a douche. Imagine having billions and billions, and yet you fail to pay somebody a few grand a month to take care of your cars, i.e. wash them so they dont look like they went through world war 3...hurts my soul

Does Sultan collect his own sisters? I read they had to be cousins.

Well. No wonder he's ashamed of that! Some non-sultans' garages look luxury by comparison. The sisters must cost too much!

Love the collection. What dampens and soothes my envy is I can’t imagine keeping that many bimmers cleaned and maintained. I’d have to hire a team of trustworthy locals to guard, wash, and vacuum. I’m sure as a sultan I could afford it.

Thanks for posting.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess that if someone gets access to the collection, they likely only have a limited time before they want them out of there.

Not entirely convinced those photos are actually from the Sultan of Brunei’s car collection. Honestly, they look more like a forgotten dealership lot somewhere in Asia, maybe even a chop shop setup.

This is actually NOT the actual car collection. The guy that made the video was unable to access the collection. Sultans car collection is extremely well taken care of .

Larry Chen recently went to see the collection. The story is truly remarkable. Reason why these are so abandoned is that the Sultan got in a lot of trouble purchasing all these. I believe the video will be on the Hagerty YouTube channel.

Those are vehicles from his collection that have fallen into disrepair over the last 20 years. There used to be multiple full time caretakers/mechanics keeping everything pristine.

For those that don't know the full back story, he had a collection of 100's of one off cars. AMG, Rolls Royce and other specialty manufacturers were kept in business just by his and his brother's purchases.

The level of excess is hard to imagine. There were so many cars to take care of that the mechanics resorted to stripping older cars (5+ years old) for parts to keep the others running. Once that parts donors got to a certain point they would be loaded onto a barge and then just dumped in the ocean. The whole story is insane.

Classic of this sub. Nothing but hate. Look at the following comments saying marrying his cousins. Who cares, it's his money. At least he didn't wrap it around a tree.

We've had this discussion about this guy's car collection here before. He has some absolutely amazing one-off machinery. Problem is, most of it is totally ruined due to mold, etc.

The absolute craziest in my opinion is his Blu Indiana (looks purple to me), Ferrari 288 GTO with blue interior.
