Small SUV
We'll be getting rid of the wife's Honda CRV in the next year or so, and probably replacing it with another small SUV (she loves being "high up", and it comes in really handy with our winters).
Don't want to spend as much as an X3 would cost, but am thinking maybe the new Acura RDX or the rumored Infiniti CX. Thoughts and / or suggestions?

One more vote for the RDX...great engine, handling and packaging. The only thing wrong with it is the busy styling.

I like the RDX but have an Envoy XUV. RDX was a little smaller and I needed to haul stuff. RDX's are still in the mid 30's I believe.

You could buy the RDX used with low miles and that would bring the price down!

Thanks for all the comments guys...
Yeah, the FX35 is probably more than we'd like to spend. The RDX will be around $40 - $45 canadian, which is about the price range we're looking at. No offence to anyone, but I can't bring myself to buy an american made vehicle (including Mazda who's owned by Ford). I just can't get over the reliability stigma, even though I know the numbers are coming around. Plus, I'd say 60% of the cars on the roads here are american cars, I'd rather go with something from Japan or Europe. Any thoughts on the Nissan Murano? No one has any dirt on the Infiniti CX?

Wow, this is the thread I've been looking for! Never even knew about the RDX - I have to get my head out from under the rock!
Hawkshaw - I'm in the same boat (looking for something for my woman and it has to be AWD for the snowy winters). If you look at used vehicles, the FX35 is actually cheap - goes as low as $30,000 U.S. if not lower. I didn't like the FX35 however because it is quite a gas guzzler (like Greeney said). Had the FX35 been capable of good mileage it'd be a no-brainer decision. The Murano is quite a bargain with 19/24 mpg and $30k new - I have yet to check it out but from my previous experiences Nissan tends to have a 'cheaper' feeling than its competitors like say, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura and BMW. But since you mentioned the Murano, have you considered getting a used RX330 (since it is similar in terms of size)? I am seriously considering one of those and when they're used, can be had for as low as $30,000 if not lower (loaded, too!).

One of the other members was complaining about the FX35 and how bad the gas mileage was. He said it was about 10mpg.

Here in the U.S. we won't get them until August 12, when they are slated to hit the dealer showrooms. I notice that Acura tends to price their models close to each other - for example the TSX vs the TL (both with navigation) has just $5,000 between them. So $38,000 sounds about right and it's also close to the figure you have. Nonetheless, I think $38,000 so far is the best bargain for a new car and the options the RDX is equipped with (so far at least purportedly) sounds quite impressive. The SH-AWD sounds good on paper but I really wonder how it competes against say the Quattro system.
