I thought this graph was interesting. The 3.8 makes exceptionally more torque (and horsepower) up to ~4,000rpm. The displacement is only a 100cc difference too. The V6 in the Genesis is far better suited to daily driving. The 3.7 is insanely peaky by comparison.

yeah definitely....
A friend of mine's real interested in the 2.0T... I was just wondering though... I thought the 0-60 should be faster? I just read reviews from insideline, motortrend, and caranddriver, and they got 6.4s, 5.7s, 5.5s respectively... Is it the driver that's the problem? I thought it was weird that the tester from insideline got such a slow time... lol I just joined the forum and the first post is about hyundai. |

I am extremely impressed with the Genesis coupe. I would definitely like to see this car modded and on the streets.

Initially, when I saw that rear window dip I wasn't really a fan. But looking at it side by side with the G37, I actually kind of like it. The G looks simple..almost mundane in comparison.

I think it's a great looking car, and a fine first effort, but I don't see myself shopping one until at least the second generation. I was expecting better performance numbers too.

I think the 3.8 is going to be a car for someone who wants to do bolt ons and be done with it. A nice sound, and simple aspirations for the car. To be honest though, the deal breaker for me in regards to Z's and G's is that they have so little potential unless you whip out the check book or take out a home equity loan for forced induction and built internals...

but kudos to Hyunda for building a very capable car for an attractive price. i'm very surprised that the G37 dynoed at 305 whp, thats the highest i've seen. i think most are around similar whp as a stock 335i (anywhere between 270-290 depending on dyno). |

I prefer the G37 styling myself but of course I'm biased. The front and rear of the Genesis Coupe are hideous. The interior of the G37 blows the GC away. As stated, the GC is a bargain buyer. For 2-3 grand more I would take 370Z over this. Unless you really need rear seats.

I took the G37S over the 335i based on value.... and when my lease is up, I may have to go the same route again and get the Genesis Coupe over the G37 based on value... Even though standard pricing is weighted heavily in favor of the Genesis Coupe, once you bring lease rates into consideration it could very well be cheaper to get a G37 than a Genesis Coupe. This is not just a factor with leasung, as Hyundai's generally have extremely low resale when selling. Will that change with the Genesis sedan and coupe? Time will tell. If you need a new car every 1-3 years as I do, the pricing difference may be moot.
As for looks, ever since the first real Genesis Coupe pictures came out, I thought it was slightly derivative from the G37, but then juiced up boy-racer style. It has certainly grown on me since then, though. From these pictures, I think the Gen-coupe looks better.. but when comparing black to black, I still like the G37 better. Hopefully over the next year we'll see what kind of development and numbers they can pull out of that 2.0T. If it's anything like the chips on the 335i, the 2.0T track is in the running for my next car purchase. It would be hard to give up the fit and finish, amenities, and high revving character though. |
