I just quit my job 10 minutes ago...

You would think you'd be very happy, but what a horrible feeling. The firm was nothing but great to me, they loved me, offered me a substantial raise, etc. Just couldn't match my new offer. I feel like I just dumped a girl.

Well; if you have nothing but great experiences with them, it's understandable that you're upset to be leaving. At the same time, you have to do what's best for you. Who knows, if you leave on good terms there's always to posibilty you could work with them in the future.

Congrats on the new job.

You have to do what is right for you. Whether it is just plain $$ or even just a better opportunity. You can always look fondly at that experience. And yes...as stated about, if you left on good terms, maybe at one you point you could return commanding a higher salary or position.

But then again...you might also fall in love with your new place. Congrats

Keep your head up. As posters have stated, hopefully its not just the money thats making you leave. But if you were not getting paid enough to live in a high cost area, then I could understand...

I actually left a field of higher paying jobs to go to one I enjoyed much more, and did take a hit salary wise. But Im also one of the few that can honestly say I love my job!!!

No it wasn't the money in the end. When I first told them about my new offer, they came back with a 20k raise, and I was basically shocked. They said they really didn't want me to leave.

That's why I feel bad, because aside from the money, the new firm is much more recognized in my field, so it would be much easier to advance my career. That's why I feel bad, because it's something they can never match.

On a side note, I do want to get my boss a gift for giving me the opportunity to work with him...any ideas?

Holy crap, they just informally offered to match my other offer. Sadly it's not the money.

There is no room for advancement in the first job?
