Anyone with knowledge about German cities?
Hi everybody
Am visiting Germany coming summer for a language course and i need advice as to which city i should choose. My options are: Berlin, Bremen, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Munchen Basically am looking to find a city with a bit of everything. Vibrant with culture sites, history, night life, safety etc What do you guys think?

Ahhhh Germany.
You know you can pretty much take the ICE to get around. You might want to try posting this in the Regional section (for Germany)...see if they can help you out a bit better for recommendations.

Go to Muenchen. The Alps are an hour south, the beer is absolutely FANTASTIC and there is plenty to do. It is definitely a great place. Dunno what language (I guess German?) but Bavaria has a different dialect, so it may be hard to understand at first.

From what i hear Berlin and Hamburg draw much attention. I was leaning towards Hamburg but unfortunately the dates in which the course is offered there do not suit me. Munchen sounds interesting but is linguistically different so am now closer to Berlin i think

Berlin or Munich. Dresden is beautiful, but not as good nightlife. Never went to Bremen or Dusseldorf.

Hamburg is at the very top of the country where the docks are located. Lots of things to do.

I wouldn't care about the linguistic difference that much. Munich is full of Non-Bavarians, so you won't have more issues talking and communicating with people. With that being said, Berlin is a great city as well. So you can't go wrong with either choice, but my recommendation is Munich. Best regards, south

Munich. It is my favorite city. You'll love it. Southern Germans and Northern Germans are very different people. You'll have more fun with Southern Germans. What program are you doing?

I've been to all these cities. Berlin is fantastic for everything. Munich is pretty good. Bremen is cute. Dresden and Dusseldorf: fuggedaboutit. If you go in Bavaria try to detour to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It's a medieval town. Absolutely stunning!

I'll second the Berlin or München recommendations. Personally, I'd pick Berlin because it is closer to family I have there. Clearly not a consideration for you! But since you are on a BMW forum, München could be a top pick. You can visit BMW Welt, and the Black Forest is really cool.
Also, both cities are about a 3.5 hour drive from Prague (a little longer by train, but probably not much.) Find the time to visit Prague!!!! If you go to Düsseldorf, the Nürburgring is less than 2 hours away.......

From all the answers i got i was between Berlin and Munich and maybe a little closer to Berlin for linguistic reasons.
However one thing that preocupies me in Berlin is the fact that the classes are taught in the afternnon. Probably this has an impact to the age group (or the "status" of the people) it attracts since am guessing it suits better people who work in the morning. So i wouldnt like to be stuck in a class with people who are doing the course on the side and not like myself who i will be there combining it with holidays. Its a language course organised by the Goethe Institute
