Star Trek movie question

If anyone has seen it yet or knows the answer it would help greatly, I don't want to waste 2 hours if I don't understand it.

Q: I have never seen ANY Star Trek episodes, and only know like 4 characters names, will I be lost if I went to see the movie?

I saw it last night. I've seen the other movies, but I'm not what you would conside a "trekkie".

There are some references that mean more if you have seen the other movies, but it's not going to ruin the film if you don't get them. Most are pretty obvious, and even if you don't know a lot about the series you'll pick up on them (not to mention half the theater will be LOL and clapping).

It's worth the money IMO, without a doubt. They did a great job with it.

Knowing the main characters in the movie and the original series will help you. L-R,

William Shatner was Captain James T. Kirk. Played in movie by Chris Pine.
Leonard Nimoy was Mr. Spock, First Officer. Played by Zachary Quinto.
DeForest Kelly played Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy. Ship's Doctor. Played by Karl Urban
James Doohan played Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott. Engineer. Played by Simon Pegg
George Takai played Hikara Sulu. Helmsman. Played by John Cho.
Nichelle Nichols played Uhura, Communications Officer. Played by Zoe Sladana
Walter Koenig played Pavel Chekov, Helmsman. Plyed by Anton Yelchin.

Yeah...I've seen a few episodes I thought the movie was really good.

I don't watch the previous Star Trek shows and movies. I always thought they looked boring.

This new movie was very entertaining though. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and didn't need prior trekkie knowledge to understand.

First, you should dress up to blend in and if you don't understand, just laugh or nod your head

I thought the movie was going to be boring but all my friends said it was good and full of action.

I actually liked the movie a lot.

What, that the "red matter" could be sucked up into a "syringe" and that little bit that could devour a planet was easy to walk around with??????

If they can travel and send communications at many many times the speed of light then they can easily harness the powers of red matter. The movie was great, you might not laugh as much as the rest of the audience at some of the nods to the orignal series from teh 60sm but still well worth seeing.

Something that is so dense that the volume it occupy is less than the Schwarzschild radius. That would be my guess.

E=MC^2

It is conceivable, allowing for the stipulation that alien worlds do exist, that we might find substances on those worlds that are capable of induced fission and have a much higher atomic mass than uranium. Since matter and energy are interchangeable, such a substance would allow for a proportionally greater energy yield.
