College was a life changing experience for me. It helped me maturely more rapidly than those who didn't go to college. (I know some are itching to type in comments that will make the statement invalid, but this is only what I see from my own experience and those of my friends who did/didn't pursue higher education after HS).

I will be getting my BS on the 19th. Have an interview for a paid internship on the 20th. Planning on taking the REHS exam in July. Got accepted to grad school and will be going back in the Fall for my Masters.

+1 My freshman year of college really changed me a lot (I didn't think so, but my family did).

To those entering college for the first time, be prepared to work your ass of. Maybe Brown is different than most, but I average 6 nights of sleep per week due to my workload (I'm trying to balance a BS Mechanical Engineering with an AB Applied Math). I have never worked harder (or more hours) in my life. That said, I also joined a frat and I have never had more fun in my life either.

The old axiom "Good grades, fun, sleep. Pick two..." is a good approximation of what to expect in college. With that in mind, I didnt sleep at all Thursday night and I don't think I will tonight either...

don't get me wrong, college is a very necessary part of life...

however, when you are majoring in biochemistry and have studied and sacrificed every weekend for the past 3 years of your life, it eventually gets old. in my opinion, those who enjoy college just aren't working as hard as they should be - to get a high GPA requires sweat and commitment, no way around it.


to those entering college: be prepared to work your ASS off for the next four years of your life, if you value your education at all.

I took some of the hardest classes my university had to offer, ie both O-chem courses, Genetics, etc. Classes where students were told "it's OK if you don't pass the first time around"..IMO that's just loser talk. I've never heard students on the brink of graduating complained so much when they didn't get A's or B's in those courses and the curve was ridiculous as well, around 50% being a C.

I used to be a pre med major and everyone who was a Biology major wanted to become doctors, but they dropped like flies as classes got harder. I enjoyed college because it separated the boys from the men. Those who have the passion/will survive and become successful in life. Those who are weak minded end up partying until the day before the finals and don't do so well.

I never said college was all fun. And you don't have to 'work harder' than the next man to 'enjoy' it. If anything, I sacrificed my social life and have spent the last several years studying at the local coffee house on Friday and Saturday nights while my friends were out clubbing.

Like I said, college helped me to be more mature than my other friends. I see things in the long run. My goal is to be making 6 figure by the time I turn 30 doing what I like. I'd rather study hard in my early 20s and living the good life than partying like I'm still in HS and stuck at a dead end job.

I'm am going to OU with Honors and majoring in Microbiology..I couldn't turn down a full ride.. I'm so excited, but I'm still nervous at the same time. This might sound gay to y'all but I'm worried about how hard I'm going to have to work, but I'm determined to put forth the effort to succeed

seriously, my uncle went from a bad inner-city school to being accepted to BOTH University of Pennsylvania Medical School and Harvard Medical School.

both of them have like 3% acceptance rates. quite an accomplishment if you ask me.
