**Bimmerpost Photo Contest #11- Album Cover - Cash Prize!***
This is going to be the first photo contest in which the winners photo will actually be used once the contest has ended!
How so you ask? The band Sometime Anywhere has recently released a new CD, but they don't have an album cover for it yet. That is where this contest comes in! Here is the link to their myspace Sometime Anywhere Listen to their music, maybe visit their personal pages, and then use that information to influence your photo. If you have any questions about the band, feel free to ask either me or Jered Grebe (the singer/ guitar player). A few do's and don'ts *BE CREATIVE!! The possibilities are almost endless in terms of what can be submitted *Feel free to use photoshop on your submissions *DO NOT include any drug related or sexual material in your photos. (within reason, just use your discression) *Please don't submit any material which is meant to poke fun at the band. They are serious about using the photo, so they ask that you be serious when taking them. The contest will end on June 19th, at which time I will compile all the entries and present them to the band so they can pick a winner. The winner will recieve a $50 cash prize. Last but not least, HAVE FUN WITH THIS!!!! |

If my submission wins I would rather license out the picture to them than just sell it for $50. Also, this theme is more about photoshop than the picture itself.

+1 on that, I have friends album art work I've done and even THEY insisted on giving me more than $50 but whatever. I assume we at least will receive a credit in the album for the cover photo?

or they could just hire someone.
this is like handing a bum a penny. gee, thanks. they could save even more money by going to craigslist and finding students looking to build their portfolio.

Its not about the money, guys. Im sure some of you might make a living for your photography, but thats not what this is about. I just thought this would be a fun idea for a contest and the prize would just be a little something extra. If you'd like i can remove the prize though.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to use this to get some cheap photos. Its just a fun contest which is no different than any of the previous ones. I mean, how is using creativity and inventiveness to shoot something worthwhile not fun?? |

you're right in the respect that its not ABOUT the money, but also, this is the 1st time we've ever had a contest that will reach outside of the friendly confines of bimmerpost.com. Someone is actually USING the work now. I think $50 for taking a picture, great, but if these guys want the good pictures to roll in they probably need to take into account that most anyone with decent photo skills can make $50 in about 10 minutes doing a family portrait or something. They are going to get what they pay for and $50 isn't much in this field. I'm not trying to put down your contest at all, its a good idea, but you also told me when you were thinking about doing this that they'd be offering "a few hundred bucks". Now its only $50? Also, what if they don't like any of the pictures? Do they have the right to NOT choose any of them because again, that is going to turn people away who think "why would I waste my time if there isn't even a guarantee that they'll use it". Just my $.02 |

Yeah I'm not so sure people are actually going to submit considering it's not really photography that you're after here, but rather "design"....

usually winners pick the contest don't they? Think this should be a separate contest not our "weekly"

So is no one going to participate? Is anyone working on anything?
I vote we start a side contest more like the usual ones with more emphasis on photography and less on graphic design. It can be "Contest 11.5." I think Turbogirl should pick the theme. Or if someone else has an interesting idea in mind, speak up! I still think this album cover contest should carry out and hopefully someone can produce what the OP is looking for. |

unless TurboGrl says anything:
Black & White Controlled Light what?! B&W - no sepia or duotone images. a scene or frame where you controlled the light - and not just the exposure. it doesn't have to be artificial light, but you do have to control all aspects of light in the scene (natural light is okay as long as you are controlling it or modifying it in some way). with one stipulation: no on-axis light sources. meaning, don't use the built-in flash on your camera nor mount a flash onto your camera to light the scene. all themes are open as long as these criteria are met. any questions?
