Will be in Oakland in Sept and will need to drive from Oakland to Milpitas to pick up my GF....I checked google map and is about 40 minute drive. Will there be traffic going there on the weekend? if so, how long is the drive usually?

Thx

Depends on what time you go

EVEN on the weekends from 3-6 PM id estimate, there can be substantial traffic.

I usually take the 280 or the 101, but you'll likely take the 880 which im not familiar with.

Leave about 20 min early and you'll be golden. (if you have nav...if your not familiar and no nav add on more time)

Enjoy your trip.

There's usually tons of traffic in the morning time and evening time (5-6:30) during weekdays on 880. Weekends I've not experienced any traffic delay. I'd still give myself 15 extra minutes like Curt3s has suggested. IT's about a 30 minute drive from Oakland to Milpitas.

From Oakland to Milpitas, 880 is the most direct route. You don't have many alternatives.

Do a yahoo maps search for the best route. The Oak Int Airport is closer to I-88O so I would recommend taking I-880 from Oakland south towards Milpitas. 880 will take you right to Milpitas. As far as traffic goes, depends on what time of the day you leave Oakland. If you're driving on a weekday in commute traffic, it's going to take over an hour. On a weekend with no traffic, 45 minutes is not unreasonable Enjoy bay area while you're here:rocks:

Ive had this same mentality here in the Bay area, but it's come to bite me in the ass.

I call it "picnic traffic" (like Jerry Seinfeld).

Be like a boyscout, always be prepared.

Here's another option. If you're into preserving the environment, why not take BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit)? Have some one drop off your GF at the BART station in Fremont and you could take BART from the airport and meet her there. You would have to take a taxi from the airport a short distance to the bart station in Oakland

I would say about 30 if you are going to O to M but M to O will be like 1 hour since the traffic is really heavy near Fremont auto mall and Newark.

don't take bart, it only goes to fremont (not far south enough)

also from OAK you have to take some ghetto shuttle bus to get to the station, which is also in some ghetto.

take 880, but expect an hour's trip even on the weekend. Unless they finish the construction on mission blvd section of the freeway. If the construction's finished you'll get there in 30 min.

I'm outside sales, I drive the bay area silly.

yea, just take 880. weekend shouldn't be bad. i'd also allow an hour like ward said because of construction on 880 as you get towards the south bay.

Only very mild traffic on the weekend... right around the warren/mission exit on 880... as everyone already mentioned, 880S is the best option. If you're a baller, you can make it in 25 min... also, depending on where you're going in Milpitas... you can cut over to 680 from Automall to avoid that mess at warren/mission.

I grew up in Milpitas, and now only live 2 blocks away in Fremont... I drive that stretch of 880 to/from Alameda all the time... it only sucks on weekday evenings 3p-7p... mornings are not too bad in that direction.

SKA, #1, you got good advise here regarding the travel from Oaktown to Milpitas.

#2, you got a GF here in Milpitas? How about this. I will pick her up and show her around until you get to Oakland, then you call me when you get in and we will meet up with you, best after 12am though. I need her address, phone number and a description of what she looks...

wait, I'm married now...maybe Shragon can pinch hit?

Just kidding bro! We should try to meet up while your here in the Yay area!!

Danny
