If you don't know how to use the lumbar support, don't. As someone who has lower back issues (SIJD), I'd say the most important thing is to make sure your knees are slightly higher than your hips, and you sit as far back in the seat as possible. If you're using the lumbar support improperly, you might find that it is causing, or at least aggravating your issue.

My BMW seat is more comfortable than my Benz imo. Go see a doctor. No joke.

I am not a doctor, but I forgot to add a few things. Although I mentioned sitting as far back in the seat as possible (this does not mean leaning the seat back), and keeping your knees slightly elevated, I neglected to mention a few other important factors.

1. Distance from the steering wheel.

This should be "just right" and will vary from person to person based on height. If you have to lean forward at all, and your shoulders are not firmly resting against the seat, you're sitting to far back. If you feel that you you have no leg room, and are doing funny things with your legs to avoid contact with the steering wheel you are obviously sitting too close.

2. Headrest.

Again, make sure it is not pushed/angled to far foward or backward.

Most of this advice came from my physical therapist after suffering a pretty bad SI joint injury. One other tip is you can use a rolled up towel in place of the lumbar support if you wish. The placement of lumbar support is important and should support the lumbar spine (no shit right?). Too low and you're pressing against the sacrum. Too high and you're pressing agianst the thoracic[sp?] spine.

The bottom line is that you want to maintain a neutral spine position.

If you have back problems please consult a doctor who can refer you to a physical therapist. Although perhaps unrelated, additionally I had to:

- Replace my mattress with a medium/firm one
- Swim more and run less (I swim a 2000m 4-5 times a week, fast)
- Make sure I wear good shoes
- Pay attention to my posture
- Stretch/exercise my lower back/abdominals more (although swimming takes care of this pretty well)

BTW, despite my avatar I'm 32 and an athletic Marine veteran who stays in good shape. You don't have to be an old man to have back issues.

Oh I know... I just wanted to be sure that nobody was thinking I was a doctor trying to dispense medical advice. I'm only passing on what my PT told me, and what's anecdotally worked for me. It's all good home skillet.

See a physical therapist. Seriously. After seeing shitloads of doctors, and having MRIs, etc. done, not one doctor could tell me what was wrong with me. The docs referred me to a PT, she fixed me in two months after figuring out my problem was SIJD.

I'm a PT who deals with Lumbar problems most of my day. I'd say you would have to be more specific with what you're feeling and where for me to be any real help.

See Josh Rubin from East West Healing in San Diego or Sam Visnic from endmybackpainnow.com in SoCal if you're serious about getting better.

Both are high level Chek Practitioners that can put the pieces of the puzzle together to treat the body as a unit and not as separate pieces (isolationist vs integrative approach).

Agreed sport seats suck. I drive my G for a week and my back feels great, hop in the 335 for an extended period and it gets sore.
