Motorola Milestone (aka GSM Droid)

The Motorola Droid is getting a lot of press lately. However, it is also a Verizon only phone. At least on initial release. I've never been a fan of Verizon most notably because they still use CDMA when the rest of the world uses GSM and SIM cards. I find Verizon's lack of SIM cards to be too restrictive in a market that promotes flexibility. But that is for another thread.

The Motorola Droid has a brother named the Milestone. The Motorola Milestone is essentially the same phone, just with GSM and multitouch enabled. The catch however, is that it will only be released in Italy and Germany. (On Nov. 9th)

For those of you like me, that are interested in the Droid but don't want the ball and chain of Verizon, I'd suggest waiting a bit for the Milestone to get unlocked and be sold at 2nd hand markets.

Motorola Milestone

The quad-band[14] GSM/UMTS version is named Motorola Milestone[15]. While the phone is essentially the same, it will ship with multitouch input support enabled, Motorola's MOTONAV in place of Droid's US-only[16] Google Maps Navigation, and a smaller bundled 8GB MicroSDHC card.[17] The Milestone will be launched first in Germany and Italy on November 9th and Argentina[18].

Easy so that people who want the I phone cannot unlock on another network like Tmobile .. I used to hate Verizon because of the cost I had Cingular which is now Att. I have had verizon for 3 years and i dont have complaints against it...

As a customer, that first bit is not in my best interest. I view their choice of using CDMA as greedy. Thats not to say other options are not greedy, but at least with the others you have a bit of direct flexibility.

I also find it funny that Verizon is getting the detuned version of the phone. I guess alot of it has to do with personality. And how much you actually care or want to care that your kind of getting shafted.
