I'm with you guys on all points. I'm asking cus I might be going on a trip so SE Asia and the swine flu there is more widespread (somewhat) and I'm a little bit on the fence whether I should get the shot or not. On the one hand it's just a flu and the vaccine is new. On the other hand, it's always good to be protected (hopefully)...

I work in the health field and have the vaccine available to me but I haven't taken in. Most of my colleagues have advised me to take it but, I'm going to hold off. I'm with you guys, but I'd sure be sorry if I caught it.

jeez. don't forget to put on your tin foil hats too! There is a difference between correlation and causation.
The majority of the population does not even need the shot. |

My cousins are coming down from SE Asia for the winter holidays, so getting the shot was done without hesitation. Actually, I got the mist instead of the shot. Sounds like it'd be less effective but the virus is live at the time of administration.

Best of luck not getting sick from the influenza because the consequences can be dire. Quote:
The seasonal flu shots are made in ANTICIPATION of the influenza that is going to be circulating. The prediction is made with a complex mathematical model and then the vaccine components are determined and manufactured MONTHS in advance to the actual flu season. Since the vaccine component is determined by statistics, there is always a chance that the prediction could be off. Last years prediction was really off base so that's why the vaccine was not effective. However, we already know that H1N1 is circulating and we are vaccinating people with the correct antigen this time. Quote:

How is this different from the regular seasonal flu vaccine? It's not a brand new vaccine. It's made the exact same way as the seasonal flu vaccine, with the same side effects profile...

I got mine done...nasal spray.
Its like any other vaccine, you can worry about all the unknowns and fall prey to all the conspiracy theorists....but if you get sick, you will wish you had just received it when you had the chance. But you know what, if you do not get this or any other vaccine, don't worry about it....natural selection has to happen one way or another.

Wow I've read every post and still on the fence on this. I'm either willing to risk getting sick or jumping in the water feet first. There is just no other way around it.

Negative if I am understanding your question correctly. I stated that for all those people deciding to skip vaccinations due to the risk of the actual vaccine...I am wishing them well with the risk of naturally contracting infections that have the potential to cause death. In time, the more people that skip vaccinations, the more prevalent these disease will become. Those that cannot combat those infections will perish.
