Does A Plugged In iPod Drain A BMW Battery?
Hi - I just got my new X6M - does anyone know if I leave my iPod plugged into the USB port overnight if it drains the car's battery or does it switch off at some point? Thanks.

It will go to sleep after a while. In most current BMWs the power is switched off completely once the vehicle is locked and you're away from it. Some of the ones with Comfort Access wake up when you get near them though. It's like trying to tell if the light in the fridge turns off when you close the door.

Even if the iPod would stay powered overnight the current drawn is so little that it would take more than a few hours to drain a fresh car battery.

I just went through all the threads about "iPod" and found this thread. Seems like everyone in that thread are certine that iPod will be continue charging regardless you turn off the car or not. Ipod always on while connected to the car? |

It won't charge your ipod.
I have tried it. Once you lock the car, everything turns off. When you unlock it, the power comes on just for a few minutes. You can try this by leaving an iphone plugged in. When you unlock your car, check your phone. The phone will say "this accessory is not made for...blah blah" which is the warning message you get when you FIRST connect your ipod/iphone. This means that the phone JUST got power when you unlocked your car since that message displayed on the screen....which means that it was not charging before.

Lol, the very idea is preposterous. An iPod holds maybe 3000mah of power. A car battery holds at least 1000x that.
