I don't think it's coming out, or if it is it will be pretty limited. Nobody is in the mood to pay $100,000+ for an M3 competitor.

Don't care.
The only Audi I'll ever be owning is the R8. When the RS5 finally does comes out to play, we'll already have a new TT M3... S5 coupe isn't a bad looker either at the moment. Damn I'm getting hungry...I want my Turkey dinner

It's due in Europe spring next year but I doubt it will be offered to North America. It's to get an improved version of the 4.2L curently used in the RS4 but there has been rumours making the circuit that this engine has been dropped in favour of a 4.0TFSI in either bi-turbo, Supercharged or a combination of both.
I suppose we will learn more next year. |

Yep, not only for the RS5 engine, but also for the 'other' engine scheduled for the RS4. Will it revv higher than 7k?
Best regards, south

Interesting. Is there a reason they wouldnt bring the RS5 to the US besides the economy? They released the RS4 here.

I am also curious as to whether BMW will have a flat torque curve from a low figure similar to that of the N54. I wonder will they intend build it gradually to give it a more familiar torque charactistic of an N/A but obviously with more torque everywhere than the engine it replaces. |

It has been in testing for a couple of years now. I hope it doesn't end up like the LF-A: Long awaited, overpriced, and hated. I think it has potential.

I don't understand their policy, they don't see North America is an important market for hi-performance/niche models. Probably production is great enough to warrant the move into the US. Typically RS models have a production run of approx 6000-8000 cars per cycle.

Unlike BMW which sells approximately 100,000 M3 in it's life cycle quattroGmbH only have the production capacity to make a percentage of that, and that will be spread over several models. It's one of the main reason why BMW more than either of the others needs to adopt FI engines in the future M cars because they play such a main role in the overall sales of the company. |

It's all about the money. Audi knows it can't sell RS cars in the US at anything remotely close to as much a profit as they can get elsewhere in the world. The US is too competitive a market and Audi/quattroGmbH is waayy too inefficient a manufacturer to step up the volume and lower the costs. You have to see the RS line not at a product line, but as a marketting tool.

Honestly if the rumor of a 4.0 F/I engine is true it will be a downer....N/A is the way to go I just hate F/I....it's just the easy and cheap way to go on top that all these engines sound like vaccum cleaners....give me an updated 4.2 and I'll be happy same goes for the S5 I hope that it will keep its 4.2...I dont care about the 3.0T modding potential it just sounds bad and has no personality. The new S4 is a let down compared to the departing B7..I'd take a B6 over the B7(even if the bias is 40-60). The new S4 is just an A4 3.0T.
