I just found out that, a couple months ago, a friend of a friend stole my keys while I was sleeping and took my car out on a drunken romp around the city while apparently taking it up to "like 140".

I'm fucking irate.

My friend (Barry) was having a beer with the carjacker (Aaron) and I guess Aaron just came out and was like "oh, dude, you remember that one night at your place, when we were all partying and got all drunk? Well, I took your friend car out for a "spin" that night! I saw it sitting out front and couldnt pass it up"

I understand how pissed you are, and even though I would want to do the same thing, physical violence isn't a good idea. Regardless of what he did, if you lay a hand on him, he can have you arrested for assault, and that will be something you don't want to deal with.

Instead, if your friend would be willing to back you up, go to the police. Get him arrested for motor vehicle theft. Depending where you live, just taking a car without the owners consent is considered a felony. Screwing him up big time by getting it on his permanent record (i.e. he'll have to report it anytime he applies for a job) is much more satisfying than getting in a punch or two.

everything on my car is fine. I didnt even know about this until a few hours ago. Its just the principal of the it

+1, as long as you have a witness willing to confirm that he admitted to stealing your car while you were sleeping, the guy won't have a leg to stand on in a courtroom. Although it may screw him over for the next 3-10 years (I think your average job only requires a 3-5 year background check, federal is 10 I believe) as far as jobs are concerned, it would be a hard lesson learned.

If this guy had the audacity to take your car out, without your consent, for a drunken joyride and endanger the lives of anyone out on the streets, whose to say he won't try and screw you over after you give him a beating? I would take the high road on this one and make him pay for his actions, both literally and figuratively speaking, haha.
