Count the intake runners. Chevy LS3 V8.

Not that it matters much but it could be any of the LS family couldn't it?

Yeah, there's very little external difference. The LS1 is the most common for swaps. If that's an LS2 or 3 they've used the cable operated throttle body from an LS1 on it.

Even if it's a bone stock LS1 it's got 350Hp, so it's going to haul ass. Very cool swap, and I'll bet he shocks some people with it.

Hey, I know that dude - I met him at the drag strips and he's manual and even with a 2.1 launch, he was passing me at the end of the strip. I think he traps high teens in the 1/4. I honestly think that putting a LSx into the M3s over the years would've given a better sports sedan... Lighter and faster and lower CG.

It's more likely that it's an LS1, but it's impossible to tell without getting a close look at it. The engines are nearly identical on the outside and it's common to swap LS1 throttle bodies onto the newer engines in applications like this.
