Any X-ray experts here? Look at my thumb...

I hurt it playing football, the thumb swelled up like 3x the size and has been hurting for the past week and counting...doctors can't figure out what's wrong with it...what im concerned about is, what is that little white blob next to the joint? sucks because it's my right hand and it makes it difficult to masturbate

it's a sessamoid...normal

other than some possible negative ulnar variance (requires straight AP view of the wrist) and soft tissue swelling...pretty unremarkable radiographs

Go see another doctor.

My wife fell down the stairs on Christmas morning at my partents house. Long story short we decided to go to the ER because we thought she might have broken her arm.

We got it X-Rayed and the Doctor on call at the ER said he couldn't see anything wrong with it.... put her in a splint and gave her some vicodin and a big 'ol *shrug*.

Went to an Orthopedic specialist (who also happens to be the staff Orthopedist for the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks) first AM on the following Monday. Within 30 seconds he diagnosed her with a broken radial ball using THE SAME DAMN FILMS.

Bottom line, not all doctors are created equal.

Bottom line...your films were initially read by the ER physician and not a radiologist

Her treatment was the not influenced by the initial x-ray misread...

ER's are great places to go for heart attacks and as a gateway for people that need hospitialized...for things that don't require admission...go to your doctors in the morning

ER doctor looked at it and the second viewing was with the on duty radiologist. They both mis-read it?

I also agree about the ER and when to go, but it was Christmas morning at 9am and unfortunately it was our only option for the following 72 hours because all offices were closed.

All I'm saying is that if the OP is concerned he should check it out with someone else.

I'm not very well educated in the field of medicine, but I agree with this. I'd rather pay my copay and have a second opinion from my personal physician.

How did you hurt your thumb? When I played football, I actually got my thumb pinched between a helmet and a shoulder pad and it swelled up to about 3 times its size, all purply and stuff. Swelling went down after about two weeks..just iced it alot. That little blip might be a cyst? dunno im no doctor lol I just go by personal experience and thats what my cyst on my wrist looks like after an xray

There does not seem to be any bone damage...possibly some tendon or ligament injury...keep it iced...follow-up with a hand surgeon...if no improvement you will end up getting a MRI

Shits not broken. Soft tissue injury.

Man up.

Start sitting on your left hand for a while then masturbating with it.
