My new ride - 1971 Buick Riviera
Thought I submitted this but can't find it, hope it's not a double/repost. This is my "what the hell" car to complement my 328xi daily driver and 325 convertible.

Thanks guys. This is about as un-BMW as you can get. I wanted something unique and considered 2002s and 8-series but would have been way in over my head with either... so I went off the deep end in the other direction.
It has a 455 V8 (7.4L!), a bench seat, and the auto tranny shifter is on the column. It's a total time capsule and I'm having a blast with it. It's not a trophy car/trailer queen, but it's been nicely restored and a great "driver" as-is. I'm looking forward to car shows and even just "classic car nights" at the local diners. It's got a muscle-car exhaust on it which sounds bitching. Sorry if it disturbs the neighbors but I've been putting up with their Harleys for almost 10 years!

Car looks great. They called those the Boattail Rivieras. I once drove a 1971 Buick Centurion which had the 455 Stage 1 engine in it with the Turbo 400 3 speed auto and posi rear. Even though the car was huge, the thing put down a good 50 feet of rubber and used to chirp the tires nicely going into 2nd. Of course, the tires on those land yachts from way back then were bias ply nylons and they were pretty narrow compared to todays tires.
Enjoy the car. |

^ My dad had an off white Centurion with the listed equipment and it would indeed burn em' off to the rims.
OP. With all due respect to your other cars, this trumps them on the cool factor IMO. Dig it. |

It's fun to watch people's reaction in traffic. Many smiles, the occasional dropped jaw, confused "WTF is that?" looks, and one douchebag even flipped me off while I was stopped! I'll admit, I'm an automotive attention whore and this thing is filling the bill quite nicely

My uncle had one of these Boat-tail Rivieras back in the day. Yours looks like it was well-cared for.

Anyone can get into an expensive car, but not everyone could drive one with character. Your 71 Riviera has a boat load...congrats!
