Ferrari 458 + Italian mag = Unbelievable times

Quattroruote recently tested the new 458 (I believe the first) and well the times speak for themselves.

Acceleration:
0 - 100 km/h (62 mph): 3.27s
0 - 160 km/h (100 mph): 6.5s
0 - 200 km/h (124 mph): 9.69s
0 - 250 km/h (156 mph): 16.0s
1/4 mile: 11.0s @ 212.8 Km/h (133 mph)
0 ~ 1000m: 19.8s @ 269.8 Km/h (168.62 mph)

0 - 1000m test

Top Speed:
327.8 Km/h (204.87 mph)

Here are other cars of this caliber to compare their 0-200km/h times.

Ferrari 458 9.7s
Carrera GT 10.7s
997.2 Turbo PDK 10.4s
R8 V10 11.8s

All sounds too incredible to me at the moment and until I see data from else where I will remain skeptical.

This is provocative. In this way, why cannot we be sceptical about the RS5? The 458 Italia was built to be faster than others, if it wasn't, it would not come out.

You should also have compared it with the LF-A, footie.

0-60 is insane for a RWD car.

OK but the 458 is hitting well above it's PTW compared to others. Either it's seriously underrated or this example from Ferrari is really special, if you know what I mean.

P.S.
Why bring up the RS5?

Oh and by the way, these times aren't far off the kind of times that the McLaren F1 did, so hopefully you can understand my skepticism.

RS5, because I can't forget shiggy vs. you on RS5 thread. He does not believe the RS5 will be "better" than M3. (I do not approve shiggy's behavior).

The McLaren F1 is still quite aged. I think we shall all be surprised by the McLaren MP4-12C with its HR FI 3.8 V8. You can't imagine how I like the 458 Italia, but I seam to like the MP4-12C even more.

Numbers are scary good. However a porsche 911 turbo with the PDK, recently tested in car and driver is right there with it.
0-60 2.9
0-100 6.8
0-150 16.2
1/4 in 11.0 @ 128.

Top speed a little slower at 194
Considering that the ferrari will likely be 100K more I find this even more impressing. However in my opinion a ferrari is a ferrari. Its what all car guys dream of having.
ONE OF THESE DAYS!!!!!!

IMO:
911 Turbo < 458 Italia
911 Turbo < R8 V10
911 Turbo < 911 GT3
But the 911 Turbo is still "the best" DD supercar.

No, its not going to be the 911 GT2 RS but the MP4-12C.

Frankly I would rather forget about shiggy's comments.

Old or not, the F1 has a considerably higher power to weight than the 458, so what reason is there for it's incredible time other than it's producing a lot more power than quoted.

Oh and I'm convinced that the MP4-12C will be quicker on every comparison test between the two. The only way to go is Forced Induction.

The 458 Italia has just much more of F1 technology, much of electronics. It should be like the GT-R with its 7:29 on the N-Ring. First I did not believe the lap times of the GT-R, but now I finally do.

I think a lot has to do with the gearing (7 speeds) and dual clutch transmission.
A lot of the guys on Porsche forums are amazed by the performance of the new Turbo with PDK, heaping all kinds of superlatives on it; apparently faster driven head to head on highway pulls than the more powerful, lighter GT2. Of course, when the GT-R was making headlines last year, they heaped all kinds of something else on it.
The 458 also has a deformable aero element which reduces drag at 200 km/h.

After talking to someone who drove the 458 I was convinced that BMW would be making the switch to a similar style of eLSD system on their M cars, though I hear that the new 1 series M will retain the customary M-diff I am sure that it's only a matter of time before they make the switch, such is the incredible grip found by the 458 with this system. So I too am expecting great things from this car, especially on the ring.

As for the GTR's time, well I was always convinced that the times were genuine.

All I said was until some other repeat or at the very least close to matching those times I will remain a bit of a skeptic. I simply look at PTW and thought that something wasn't quite right.

The whole title was a bit tongue in cheek, the same comments can referred to US mags that test American cars and German mags that test German ones, sorry if you get the wrong end of the stick.
