Nasal Cauterization
anyone get this done? if so what technique did they use ie chemical, laser, etc and was it painful?
i got my right nasal cauterized about 2 years ago and never had any nosebleeds since then. but now i think i need to get my left one done cause im getting frequent nose bleeds again. when i first did it i believe he used chemical, dipped a cotton gauge in a solution and shoved it up my nose to numb it and did something in there lol. i don't know i always get nose bleeds quite easily during the summer when its hot and humid like a simple blow nose in tissue will start it and it doesn't stop asap either. during the winter im fine, i always wanted to go back to get my other nostrol done and i think its time...

Never heard of the procedure before. I get nose bleeds a lot from blowing my nose with the change of seasons. Definitely worse this year in AZ then previous years in NY.
I personally wouldn't F with it. Not sure what the chances of anosmia are or how far they go up. Anything past the cartilaginous portion would freak me out. Some important stuff up there. |

this explains the process well:
but im not sure if i had the silver nitrate method... i want to go back but i remember even when it was numb it still hurt like a bitch but well worth it imo cause i never get nose bleeds from my other nostrol. funny as i type this cause i have a tissue jammed up my nose yet once again. and my nose bleeds like a river for awhile before it clots. im thinking of either going to the same docotor that did my 1st procedure or finding me a new one. PS: jaykay how you doing man? what type of doctor you studying for?

used to get it alot from Rugby - I got the procedure done so many times the doc wouldn't risk doing it again and said I would have to get surgery to fix it next time; lucky for me it did not bleed again

Ive had both sides done multiple times, all because of wrestling. I used to get a bloody nose every single day at practice, so I would get this done almost once a year.
It was awhile ago, but I think the doc just used silver nitrate sticks. Would swipe it a few times to cauterize the area, then pack it with gauze that I had to leave in for like 2 days. Like I said I had it done about once a year because thats about how long the procedure would last me then it would start bleeding again. It was never painful though |
