100mph Test Run

Today I tested my girlfriends 328i performance on an old highway. I took it up to 100mph and honestly it didn't feel as I expected it to. I've taken a 7th generation Accord V6 up to 130 and it felt better.

On the BMW, the brakes started to feel like they wanted to lock up and the steering went from tight and precise to loose and semi-uncontrollable. When I began to slow down, the steering took a hard veer left and the brakes became very sticky. The engine seemed to struggle as it hit 90. In full automatic mode it refused to up shift and stayed above 5k revs.

On the Accord, the steering did lose some of its precision but overall felt the same. The brakes on the Accord did not act any differently then at lower speeds. Also the Accord was doing around 3k revs at 130 and felt like there was plenty of power to spare.

I don't have anything against the BMW for being a sports car but this seems a little strange to me.
Has anyone else actually tested their BMW's potential and had better results?

I've driven mine to 150, it felt very stable and safe. Aside from the fact that everything was going by so fast it still felt like it did at 80. The Brakes are great too when idiot's don't look in the mirror before doing 60 in the fast lane in front of a car thats doing 100+

I've taken tight turns in my car at about 85-90 MPH and it felt very stable. The car always feels good at hight speeds and never feels unstable.

It sounds like your car may have some issues. I've had my car at pretty decent speeds before with no drama whatsoever.

Every honda I have been in at 100+ has felt like its floating down the high way and about to spin out. The bimmer on the other hand rides like a champ.

So i do not know what your talking about, either you have a super accord or a wreck of a bimmer.

Point #1: Having had a 328, I don't recall that at all (neither the brakes nor the steering). Not sure what your sensitive point is, but neither of your comments is characteristic of a 328.

Point #2: Steering took a hard veer? This happens on a FWD vehicle under hard breaking, not a RWD one.

Point #3: Did you run it in DS or D, or manual? Sounds like D to me, which is going to give you a different feel under acceleration, different shift patters, etc.

Point #4: The Accord was not at 3k RPM @ 130.

Thank you for coming to post your experiences from your vastly experienced CR-V driving. Might be better if you joined a Honda forum, where people might enjoy this kind of FUD.

+1
Also keep in mind perfomance depends heavily on the quality of care of the vehicle. Her car may not have been maintained well.

Look at the driver's door jamb and make sure you have the proper cold air tire pressure for speeds over 100. If your girlfriend is like any girl ive known in my life, then your car was unstable at 100mph because you were cruising on tires with <25 psi. Also, it pulls to the left when you brake? If that isn't a sign that something is wrong, I don't know what is.

Well I guess flaming was mandatory.

I was just wondering what would cause the car to act that way. I don't have anything against BMW's, it did seem weird for the "Ultimate Driving Machine" to act like that.

Thanks for the suggestion of tire pressure, I'll check that tomorrow.

A woman owns it. Rotors are probably warped, tires probably suck/ worn/ wrong PSI, lack of maintenance, cheap gas, the list goes on. Alignment...

+1 That might help.
I can't say I've been that fast but no matter what the conditions on the highway are it's felt more stable than anything else I've driven. Even when I slam on the brakes at 75 and steer clear of some lady who didn't check her mirrors or signal it's amazing how good the control is.

Get her car checked ASAP
